haha! this made me chuckle.
The problem for Sanders is I donāt see how he could be effective as President without real help in the House and Senate.
Maddow asked both OāMalley and Sanders to address the ever weakening Democratic party infrastructure, but moved on too quickly. Even assuming the Democrat wins the Presidency, unless the Democratic party starts right now, it looks like next year could be a bad year for Democrats across the nation. That means the Presidential win will be symbolic at best.
I would be a very happy girl if I saw Martin OāMalley in a kilt. Oh yes.
I think Bernie did great and I think HRC did great, too. Iāve nothing bad to say about OāMalley except that he was Mayor of Baltimore and that police force! Anyway, Iām just not that interested in his candidacy at this point. I love Bernie. I thought his answer about hunters needing to take their guns and ammo onto Amtrak was a crock. I mean find another way to travel with your guns and ammo, is my opinion on that. But besides that, I love his politics and he would be my main man but for the fact I donāt think he can win the general. But then I didnāt think heād get this far, either.
HRC did the Democrats proud tonight, too. She seems to have more condfidence now than she had in '08. Sheās not as far to the left as me but I realize that the vast majority of the electorate isnāt as far to the left as me and I accept that. I worry that she thinks we need to āpoliceā the world either diplomatically or via a bombing campaign. But I think that she is open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. She is a woman and has a right to change her mind. Ha!
I donāt know. Iāve been saying all along that I love Bernie and his politics, but since I donāt think he can win the general, Iāll be voting for HRC because I do think she can win the general and there are lots of things I like about her, too. But tonight Bernie sort of got to me. Iām terribly conflicted now.
Bernie Sanders keeps America honest. This man is precious treat him well!!
Pretty obvious statement.
:Symbolic"? Like Alleged lameduck Obamaās Iran Deal?
redistricting is one thing but since when do Democrats try to restrict voting?
Fixed the first sentence: āSen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called Republicans āpolitical cowardsā for
their efforts to restrict voting rights and suggested a constitutional
amendment might be necessary to protect our DEMOCRACY.ā
ā. . . protect the franchise?ā WTF
I was relived to hear that Hillary went down to Wall Street and schooled them up on not gambling with the economy. That was a game-changer for America. As president she could talk to the oil and coal companies and tell them to knock it off and cut fossil fuel production. And she could get with the credit card companies and tell them, hey guys stop with the criminal manipulations of their services. And then she can tell ISIS, hey lads, your messing up the Middle East, knock it off. And if you donāt, Iāll bomb a bunch of civilians in Syria and Iran.
Thatāll be great.
ābomb a bunch of civiliansā in Syria and Iran? How will that get ISIS to āknock it offā? Iran??? Shiites? vs Sunni? Did you work for Bush 43, because ISIS might like you bombing Iran?
Agreed completely! I was very much in favor of OāMalley going into this race but, unfortunaltey, it just isnāt his time. I believe 2010 WILL be his time and he should seriously prepare for then.
I thought his answer about hunters needing to take their guns and ammo onto Amtrak was a crock. I mean find another way to travel with your guns and ammo, is my opinion on that.
The guns-on-Amtrak thing is pretty much a non-issue as far as Iām concerned. What Bernie voted for was not to let people carry firearms on Amtrak, but to let them transport an unloaded gun in their checked baggage (which the passenger has no access to during the trip), the same as people were ā and still are ā allowed to do on airlines. If someone can explain to me why that shouldnāt be allowed, Iām willing to listen.
I initially had some concerns because I know that some Amtrak trains donāt have checked baggage, and was wondering if people were being allowed to carry their firearms in carry-on luggage on those trains. But looked up the rules and found that firearms are only allowed on trains that do have checked baggage.
Here are the rules, by the way: http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?c=AM_Content_C&pagename=am%2FLayout&cid=1248542762713
I do not watch TV, but after reading this post and the comments, I am sorry I missed the program. Sandersā point hits the target, but Iād say he might have gone farther, deeper into the rot. The far right is not afraid of fair elections. It seems to me they are past that point. Imagine a basketball game. One team decides it needs to cheat to win. They commit fouls and feign innocence when caught. And the players feel some modicum of shame, because they feel the need to act innocent.
Thatās not whatās happening in politics. The Right is controlled by people without shame, and with absolutely no fidelity to the rules of the game. The donāt want to play hard up to and just over what the rules allow. Bush v Gore is one illustration: remember the Brooks Brothers riots? The sports analogy is to send a thug onto the court to stab an opponent, and another to threaten the timekeeper to let the clock run while your guys drop the ball into the basket until time runs out. Yay, we won, they say. We express outrage, berate their cowardice, but they donāt even bother to laugh at us for being clueless.
They want the basketball league to stay in place, with sham āgames,ā because that is the structure through which they exercise power, and they need for now the charade of a āgameā that is not really a game at all. Thus, the plan to own all the referees.
We can sputter āFor shameā and call theme āCowardsā but they are not ashamed and not cowards, and so it is a big mistake to think of them as such, under current conditions. Nothing has happened that would test their courage, no one has found a way to fight them on the ground on which they operate. I sometime wonder how much would have been different had those DC operatives who travelled to Florida for a fake āspontaneousā clamor when votes were being counted had been met by a band of goons from OUR side who had beaten the crap out of them. You might even say that the left or the democrats proved to be the true cowards: they kicked sand in our face and we did not fight.
As far as the rest of your comment, I totally understand where youāre coming from. My view is that I donāt think Bernie stands much of a chance of winning the primary, but if he somehow does pull it off, I think he could win the general. Why? Winning the primary in the face of all the factors working against him would be an extraordinary feat and would electrify the party base as well as bring a lot of new voters and young voters to the polls. Meanwhile, I believe Bernie would do very well with independents. He wouldnāt get a lot of Republican votes, but then neither would Hillary. So, Iām comfortable voting for Bernie in the primary.
As for Hillary, I have the same concerns you do, but like you I would not hesitate to vote for her in the general. And while I have concerns about her troublingly high unfavorables among general election voters, I think that will gradually improve if she continues to put in the kind of strong performances that she did in this forum, in the debate, and for that matter in the Benghazi hearing. I think she would annihilate most of the Republican contenders. A couple could give her a closer fight, but I still like her chances.
Time to re-calibrate your snarkometer.
Agreed completely! I was very much in favor of OāMalley going into this race but, unfortunaltey, it just isnāt his time. I believe 2010 WILL be his time and he should seriously prepare for then.
As long as heās got a time machine, he can just keep going back until he wins. Not in 2010, of course, since it wasnāt a presidential election year.
Too many people died for voting rights for blacks and hispanics to have lower turn out rates than whites. In all but two election years going back to 1984 the percentage of black turn out been less than the white (both times black turnout exceeded white when Obama ran). In no election year has hispanic turn out exceed either white or black. So, for thirteen (13) out of fifteen (15) elections, the percentage of white turnout has exceeded both hispanic and black.
For all the people who died and marched and campaigned for voting rights, this is unconscionable, an insult to their sacrifice and to their legacy.
Get off you butts and vote.

Bernie is an unlikely foe to the Republican Party but he is tearing into them. And, with just the facts, thatās the great part.
Bernie has a huge place in our Party but I personally donāt think it is the Presidency. He is invaluable like Elizabeth Warren.
What a maginificent post.
