I’d like to propose a summit meeting between Hillary and Bernie with the goal of achieving a grand bargain for party unity. Bernie’s supporters vociferously believe Hillary should just shut up and go away. Hillary’s supporters devoutly wish that Bernie would just shut up and go away.
My modest proposal is that, although both of their supporters’ believe that only one of the two should shut up and go away while the others continues speaking out and going strong, the best thing for the party and the nation is that they both just shut up and go away. Make a negotiated joint statement about the good of the party and their age and desire to retire and spend time with the grandkids (or whatever). And thereafter, make no public statements or tweets or comments other than the obligatory expressions of condolence after the deaths of prominent people. Not even low-watt congratulations to inspiring kids who win STEM awards or do good works or to local ball teams who when the championship, because at this point, even that will set off a goddamn fight.
Yes. This will leave the supporters of both feeling aggrieved over the unjust goring of their ox and like their favorite has been unjustifiably silenced when it’s really only that other expletive who needs to shut the fuck up and go away. But that’s how compromises work–if both sides feel about equally put upon, it’s probably about right.
So, Hill? Bern? How about it? For the good of the nation and the world, take one for the team.
That is totally unrealistic, whatever the merits.
I agree halfway though: Hillary and Bernie should forge a public alliance, and in doing so Bernie will implicitly (or explicitly) eschew a 2020 run, as they both focus on unifying the party, strengthening a core message, and supporting candidates down the line.
Cardi B is nastily transphobic and may not be a person Bernie wants on his team.
Sensational idea! And for good measure can we throw Joe Biden’s name into this pledge?
The only thing the Hillary faction will accept is total surrender. They used shady means to keep control at the DNC, and they are deep rooted at the DCCC. They don’t really care if Dems win so long as Berniecrats don’t. For them, reform is a four letter word.
Hasn’t Hillary already shutup and gone away?
Welp, the thing isn’t about 2 personalities. One side, the side I’m on is sick of Wall St having carte blanche, believes it is impossible for a team of Wall St consultants to implement policy that DOESN’T screw over working people, is sick and tired of being held at arms length while Democratic swells make common cause with the GOP on economic issues. The other side seems just want to get back in so they can reap the rewards of the status quo.
If you can fix that…go for it.
Also Cardi B’s music sucks. Totally sucks, like all modern hip hop. Focused on materialism. Sold out corporate music.
Yeah, no, that’s not remotely true. But whatever.
No, there’s some truth there…you just don’t like it.
Most people don’t know anything about the “control at the DNC”, and you’re one of them but it’s a catchy bunch of words to throw out now and again. Notice how “smart” and “legal” are used and not “shady means.”
Like it or not, political parties are private businesses. The DNC was broke, and Clinton bailed it out. And like any investor in a business being saved from bankruptcy, Clinton had the right to do want she wanted to do with the operation. After all, she was paying the bills.
She not only took over the operation, she turned it into an extension of her campaign-fundraising machine, through which millions of dollars could be collected over and above the usual limits on presidential candidates. That was smart — and legal.
Should Obama shut up and go away as well? How about Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, and Steny Hoyer? There are plenty of Democrats that would love that too. Old farts all, we need to vote them out of the Democratic leadership! Yeah, that’s the ticket. Tell them to shut up and go away! We need more young inexperience blood at the top.
Back that with one example.
As to Bernie the Pure – accessing your opponent’s data is not done. And suing over the reaction to your action is ridiculous.
It is tough to get Bernie to help unify a party he is not a member of
But…but…she tweeting something Bernie liked! She’s gold now!
He never was. It was just a useful lie he told for a brief period of time because he hoped it would bring him to power.
He’s made it clear he’s going to make himself appealing to black voters. For 2020 when he’ll be an ossified 79. So of course start with this musician instead of musicians named Beyonce or Jay Z who flocked to Barack Obama.
I’d say half of your proposal has a lot of merit.
There’s a kindergarten class whose graduates I have my eye on. They’re going to be fantastic in a few years from now.
