Discussion: Bernie Black Lives Matter (VIDEO)

Can we set the record straight on that issue once and for all - Marissa Janae’s own words
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/marissa-janae-johnson-doesnt-give-a-fck-if-protest-at-seattle-bernie-sanders-rally-drives-people-away/

  • Johnson said she and her group have not disrupted any Hillary rallies
because “Hillary has better Secret Service than Obama.”

“She’s doing these private dinners that are invite-only,” agreed
Gandi. “It’s positively ludicrous for people to think that these
activists would not be protesting Hillary if they could get to her.”

  • The work that I do in particular is agitation work,” Johnson said,
when asked why she never contacted the Sanders campaign to ask for a
spot in the rally’s program. “People are having these conversations,
people are forced to do their own work and do their own reforms
because of work that I’ve done on the ground.”

“Well, what would you say to the people who say that you’re hurting
    your cause?” White asked.

“I don’t give a fuck about the white gaze,” Johnson replied. “I
    don’t. I literally don’t.”

When asked about her admission that she once supported former Alaska
Gov. Sarah Palin (R), Johnson explained that her parents, an
interracial couple, are Tea Party supporters and that she was a
supporter of the former vice presidential candidate when she was a
    high schooler in 2008.

“Clearly that’s not where I am, because people leave high school and
go to college and [change their views],” she explained, adding that
she was a “devout evangelical Christian.”

“So, yes, I did run up there and confront Bernie Sanders because of
my religious conviction, absolutely. Are they right-wing religious
    convictions? No.”

I don’t think he is necessarily blind to anything. He wasn’t actually given much of a chance to speak when it was brought up. Since then he has been pretty forceful and his done his best to get out front of this. By the way, I prefer Hillary Clinton (I want the best chance to win) but it seems pretty obvious to me that Bernie, who is as fantastic human being, is being unfairly criticized.

Also what makes someone a spokesperson for BLM? Just saying they are? For example, if someone once supported Sarah Palin should I pay any attention to them? What if they use an idiotic non-sequitur like “liberal white supremacists” Where are the bona fides that make someone a legitimate voice for BLM? Is being black enough?

“Hey, we’re getting literally killed out here!” vs. “Waah, some activists were rude to our candidate!”

Which way does your empathy meter point?

If your rally is interrupted by BLM, you have exactly 23 seconds to turn the microphone over. If you take longer than that you must apologize.

Or you could just have a little awareness of where they’re coming from, and behave accordingly.

This headline is a little sensationalist. The bulk of Sanders’s response was that he’s supportive of their goals. He was asked a weird question if he owes an apology to a couple people who acted obnoxiously and took a microphone away form him while he was speaking. Obviously, he does not but it’s not like he’s Trump insulting Megyn Kelly then being defiant or anything.

Dear Ms. Johnson, You attacked Bernie Sanders on religious grounds (!!) and called people like me white supremacists? Then I don’t give a fuck what you think either. I literally don’t. You had your 30 seconds of fame and revealed yourself an idiot. Maybe because it was because you supported Sarah Palin even at a tender age and it rotted your brain or maybe it was all that religion. Either way, I just don’t care about you, even though I do care about the things you claim to stand for.

They are entitled to be heard and make their point. And activism IS uncomfortable. But calling Sanders a white supremacist liberal? The man has a perfect score with the NAACP!

And by going after Sanders because he was an easy target, yet giving a pass to 17 republicans who are unbelievably worse on these issues is lazy activism. “Lets go after the nice old white guy, cause we can force our way onto his stage and push him off. Those republicans that are actually are enemies? Nu uh. They hire mean security guards. And wouldn’t hesitate to toss us off the stage. No, I am sticking with beating up the old white guy”

Okay…I’m not sure what two measurable goals you want from Senator Sanders since you talk about measurable goals regarding #BLM and not measurable goals from Senator Sanders.

Senator Sanders is not going to use his stump speeches to push specific pieces of legislation. He has, though, spoken out about the issues that these address. His speeches are about what he will do as President, not what he is doing as a Senator. He may still talk about the specific pieces of legislation as they come closer to a vote, though, but he may not.

As for #BLM, I thoroughly agree that they need to organize, get the money to lobby and become more of a vocal entity. Many of the victories of the Civil Rights Movement involved working the halls of Congress. Today, that’s more vital than ever before.

Not to mention the fact that Sanders is Jewish, and he lost a number of relatives to the real white supremacists out there.

Stump speeches aren’t to push specific pieces of legislation? Okay…

Yeah, calling allies and potential allies “liberal white supremacists” was over the line and divisive.

The condescending way in which his supporters are talking to the black people trying to be heard isn’t helping either, btw. If I hear one more time about how Bernie marched with MLK…

I totally agree with you and I am getting sick of this outrage from “so-called” liberal progressives here. I don’t know if you’ve seen this

Some of his supporters are as whacked as Ron Paul’s supporters ever were.

Yeah sure sounds like you do.

I have zero empathy for people who have all the privileges I do, yet get their precious feelings hurt at the drop of a mic and always punch down. So yes, I have more empathy for people who want candidates to recognize the deadly dangers they face as minorities, than I do for white liberal dudebros who get frustrated because their white candidate had an inconvenient moment at an event.

The most successful black civil rights leader of our time was Martin Luther King. He would have never hijacked Bernie Sanders event when thousands of people came to hear Bernie Sanders speak. Sanders is probably the most fair minded candidate running on equality of opportunity for all. They should have contacted his organization and asked to meet with him which would have gotten them a lot further. As it turned out, they looked like two beligerent women setting back a legitimate cause in the worst possible way. They need to study a little history. They are turning off millions of Americans that would support their grievences. Being rude, crude and despecting an audience of thousands will get you no where.
