Discussion: Barr: Evidence Mueller Found Not 'Sufficient' To Charge Trump With Obstruction

I never thought they’d get him on Russia, Always thought they’d get him on Obstruction. Barr and Rose stein made that impossible

Think of “collusion” as conspiracy. Remember Mueller like the rest of us has heard Trump’s goddam mantra for 22 months.

It’s alway darkest before the dawn, folks. This is a pretty bad day the Dems, though. Any further evidence that comes out against Trump will seem less relevant. The well has been thoroughly poisoned by this report.

Isn’t that what we’ve been saying about him for years? That he’s just a useful idiot?

Like I have been saying for months, Bob Mueller is not going to save us.

Neither is Nancy Pelosi.

No Democracy, No Justice.

You were right about Barr. Geeez, what these fucking people won’t do. So, moving forward, what do you see playing out? Can we save the country or are we doomed?

Barr is emerging as the Republican Version of the Harvey Keitel Character in Pulp Fiction: He cleaned up Iran Contra for Poppy Bush and now he’s here to mop up “this Russia Thing.”

There was no collusion. Except for that time the candidate called on Russia directly to attack his opponents, in public, and they did. And except for the time that he had his campaign manager change the party platform to help Russia. And except for the time that his own son met with Russians to discuss getting dirt on Hillary. And except for the time that Kushner tried to set up a backchannel to continue illicit communications with the Russians.
What the fuck?

And so far at least, they have gotten away with it without even having a Saturday Night Massacre. It turns out that I was not being cynical enough in my posts yesterday.

Mueller is a Republican. All you need to know.

Does it seem odd that Mueller made a judgement that the evidence was insufficient regarding Trump conspiring with Russia but opted not to make a judgement on obstruction? Why make a judgement on one question and avoid judgement on the other?

This short 2 min clip by Ari Melber is pretty good and lays things out.

Democrats should be determined, not panic and not be despondent. Barr was in a rush to exonerate Trump and in doing so he usurped Congress’ primary authority to determine the guilt or innocence of the President on matters impacting ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’. Barr has opened the door for Congress to get the whole report, because Mueller has said that he cannot exonerate Trump of a crime. Well, that’s a clear punt to Congress. They are the ultimate arbiters of this.

What we’re seeing here is the real Saturday Night Massacre Part 2. We need to react as Dems did back then and get the report.

"The most important parts of this letter are the direct quotes from the Mueller report, everything else are Barr's views and conclusions"

"We see some gap distance between Mueller's take on obstruction... and Barr going further" - @AriMelber pic.twitter.com/CLhCZ3rRFN

the report identifies no actions that, in our judgement, constitute obstructive conduct, had a nexus to a pending or contemplated proceeding,

This is the money quote. Barr is arguing that because there was no pending or contemplated proceeding against Trump, by definition firing the investigator could not be obstructive of justice.

This is stunningly contemptuous of the law. It really is a fuck-you. I mean, why investigate Trump for obstruction of justice at all?

Exactly! This is pretty much I’d posted here on Friday. This all feels like a gut punch.

Unfortunately, nothing we can say about this now wasn’t already said by Republicans when Comey didn’t prosecute Hillary. It’s as though the entire Trump administration is nothing but the Republicans taking revenge for the Obama administration. This whole time they’re just saying “HA HA, that’s how we felt under Obama!”

I guess they’re not wrong in that assessment. This is all so very strange and surreal though.

Not sufficient and does not exonerate. I wouldn’t be taking that to the bank.

You have to factor in how unfair this was to Trump and all the advantages given to Clinton.
a) Comey is a Republican
b) Rosenstein is a Republican
c) Mueller is a Republican
d) both houses of Congress were Republican led (until 2018)
e) Putin is likely a Republican

See all that bias Trump has to jump through that Clinton did not.
