Wait, so that means they admit to being fascists?!

That never seems to occur to them.

Or, and I will continue to say this over and over again, the republicans KNOW that Putin has the election system in several key states on lockdown and can produce whatever results they choose, when they choose.

They know it’s rigged, literally, and they know they can’t be touched.

I began looking for a job in Canada yesterday. It seems that what I do is in demand and may actually be doable.

Perhaps more than falling on their swords for trump, they are protecting themselves. This would then encompass a lot of them, from Nunes to Ryan…as much for themselves as for trump IMO.

But its not lasting. All of that will be overturned within a year…maybe two, considering the first year will be busy. So why go there>? Besides the courts…and thats the one thing McConnell has been lasered focused upon…the rest gets fixed.

So…why go there? To the bigger question, why vote for the tax bill with such huge, local, feedback?

Its all pointing to an autumn surprise we wont like.

It’s only for themselves—they’d turn on him in a minute if they thought he’d damage them.

Sorry, I must strongly disagree. There was a time when this country was seen as exceptional, and having at least an arguable claim of moral authority. A big part of that was that we were perceived to be a country with a nearly universal belief in “laws not men”. Also there was a time when we acted (however imperfectly) as if Geneva Conventions were a positive force in the world. We cede those notions at our own existential peril.

As much as I love your righteous rage, I can’t disagree more.

Democrats need to be the party of adults, even if it hurts. Why would you want to give actual credibility to the ‘both parties are the same’ trope?

No, we need to be BOTH the party of adults AND take no prisoners when the need arises.
Stooping to their level does not work. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Remember the morals we were taught? We don’t need to sacrifice them like they did. God help us all if we do…

They’re already complaining about the “Tyranny of the Majority”; they’ve been doing that for years.
Which is why they’re busy building the Tyranny of the Elite.

I don’t know about you, but speaking truth to combat efforts by the government to lie to the American people in furtherance of a fascist political agenda is well within the bounds of the morals I was taught. Indeed to stand by and allow our democracy to be destroyed by such lies, because the liars have rigged the rules to make speaking the truth illegal is the immoral option. And that is what the cries of we need to maintain the high ground and can’t hit back always seem to miss. We don’t need to secede the high ground to hit back, we just need to speak the truth about Republicans instead of indulging in polite fictions, because the truth about the modern white bationalist christo-fascist corporste feudalist Republican party is far more damning than any of their lies.

Boy, you read a lot more into that than I was saying.

You might want consider that anger is the enemy of solid action. You can’t make good decisions if your angry.

A more dispassionate reading of the situation would make me consider that alienating the vast middle of the electorate, simply to vent ones spleen, may not productive
