Blame wildlife from which humans have taken over their habitats and turned them into resorts… YES, BLAME WILDLIFE
For all the shrieking about bad parents on this thread, this could have been avoided by better signage. Really, it would have been that simple. People come to Orlando from all over the world–very often to visit a theme park. Blaming this on stupid parents or stupid tourists that don’t know about alligators in the lagoons at a Florida luxury hotel is ignorant and absurd.
Better signage would help, but Disneyworld is a place where people ignore things like that. There’s a built-in understanding that cast members will take care of you no matter what, whether that’s fair or reasonable to assume. But yes, blaming most things that happen to children on their parents is stupid. Particularly at a place like Disney, and especially at the Grand Floridian, where the price-point implicitly says “we spare no expense during your stay.”
In any case, it’s done. They will now live with the ‘what ifs’ for the rest of their lives.
Not just at Disney World. Signage is for notice for liability purposes, not because it really does much good. Now, whoever ignores does so at their own peril.
“Safety Third”, as Mike Rowe likes to say.
