Discussion: Authorities Cut Off Power To Stop Standoff From Expanding In Oregon

The crazy is old and strong in this one.

Works for me! But check out some time how many scofflaws and deadbeats your municipal authorities are wrangling with all the time, and how long those wrangles can go on for. Some people just don’t like paying bills. But as long as nobody’s waving guns around there are mechanisms to deal with it.

The stated, published answer to keeping power on to the main building is so the water pipes don’t freeze, causing more damages to be fixed later. I suppose maybe they could also stop the water flowing to this facility but maybe the shut off switch is inside the building? Hard to say about that but, the freezing pipes are not a joke.

In the climate well-head pumps and pipes have heaters to keep them from freezing up and bursting.

Correct, and the Feds know this. They are handling it perfectly.

And there will be arrests when this thing is all over, guaranteed.

For now, let them continue to make asses of themselves until they start crying like babies. It’s quite humorous.

Yes, pipes in those locations are protected by heat trace cable, which is indeed dependent on electrical power.

Exactly, the knee jerk reaction of wanting to confront these guys with arms and blow them away is exactly what these nuts want. The Feds are playing this perfectly. And there will definitely be numerous arrests. And these guys will get NONE of their demands met. So they lose.

So frustrating. But maybe we an encourage more mockery? TP the place, glitter bomb their trucks? Burma Shave road signs as they drive into town? (Local gas stations refusing service would be cool too)

Edit: @Downriver - fun read on the arrest report; especially liked the white cowboy hat.

That’s the part I have no confidence in. I feel like I’ve seen this movie before…and no, it wasn’t Waco or Ruby Ridge.

It has been emphasized multiple times the occupiers are free to come and go as they please, including the resupply of food and essentials. Why in the hell cutting power to anything matters if generators and fuel can be brought in to bypass such a measure confuses me. Am I missing something, other than these idiots may not expend the time, effort or money to foil such a tactic?

Josn, as they get arrest warrants served on them once this is over, can you please post every single one?

This is a government that will expend half a billion dollars on a single fighter bomber. Not wanting to gut a building’s plumbing system and replace it, regardless the cost or trouble, hardly seems a rational justification for half-stepping measures to evict illegal paramilitary squatters.

I wrote essentially the same thing above. Kind of defeats the purpose in a way, except by way of inconveniencing them. But apparently, some people think this is some well-planned elaborate psy-ops thing by the Feds. I think it looks more like there are too many law enforcement agencies all vying for supremacy in dealing with this matter, having wildly divergent ways of going about it, and ending up looking massively inconsistent at this point. But what do I know?

It’s not just the effect on the jerkwads in the visitor center, it’s the effect on locals and on other jerkwads. If the feeds had gone it with overwhelming force, you know for sure that someone would have managed to get themselves killed. That person would be a martyr, and the locals would consider the feds jackbooted thugs (the way some of them already do because, y’know, wildlife refuge).

The longer this goes on, the more it becomes clear to the average rural westerner that dangerous asswipes with guns are dangerous asswipes with guns rather than noble freedom fighters. And the more some other bunch of teahadi jerkwads with a plan to do something stupid has to stop and think about whether they want to be remembered like these guys. One of the ways you beat an insurgency is to cut off its support network.

I kidded here a few days ago about the Feds likely finding a way to botch this. Prostitutes, lost weapons, stolen cars, drunken shenanigans. Several took real offense, as if suggesting the FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals, et al were anything less than perfect was a ghastly proposition. Bundy told the local sheriff to get the hell off “his” property and pound sand yesterday. Seemingly to no ill effect. On what fricking planet do you tell the sheriff to fuck off and get away with it?

Yes. I still don’t quite understand the rationale behind the “come and go as you please and let us know when you’re ready to take your lumps” methodology to the standoff negotiations.

Unfortunately, that’s their wet dream.

Well said, Mattin. By denying them their martyrdom they kick the legs out from under the “white boy gotta shoot someone and get famous/rake in $ for it” terrorist movement. They look like fools and are laughing stocks. Nothing works better to stop copy cats than knowing you are going to be made fun of and humiliated with no big pay day to soften the blow.

Although some patience is called for, it’s hard to tell if this is a siege or a potluck. Forgot an ingredient for the jello salad? Just pop down to the quicki-mart to grab it…no problem!

I honestly hope you’re right about this. So far, no one has been charged with anything in the Bundy ranch fiasco, which only empowered these idiots to do it again.
