Discussion: At Least Two KY. Clerks Not Issuing Any Marriage Licenses After Gay Marriage Ruling

Not really that all that far from the situation in Texas: state licensing agency employees are unlikely to face any consequences negative to their employment status for the near future, but in time they’ll have to adapt or else move on or be moved out.

For anyone old enough to recall what happened right after LBJ signed the CRA 1965 into law, this is all pretty tepid.

So a straight atheist couple want a license. Were they granted one? Budists, Muslims, Druids? Sure as long as there’s a wee wee and a hoo hoo involved.

… and that according to the county attorney, he could refuse licenses to anyone besides minors, who are required to have licenses in the counties where they live.

What is that about? Minors–as in children–must be licensed like you license your dog? Seriously? I’ve not heard of this before.

"I respect their position — the gay community’s — that that is how they want to live … but I would ask for for the same respect for my decision," Casey Davis said.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis told WKYT, “It is my deep conviction and belief that God ordained marriage between a man and a woman. I can’t be a part of this.”

Good grief – then don’t be “part of this.” Move along and allow someone who will do the job to have the position. Jeezus - you people are such whiny stupid babies about these issues!

Whatever your deeply held religious beliefs, you still have a job to do. Your job is not to marry someone of the same sex (or either sex for that matter), but to process the paperwork for someone else’s marriage.Your religious beliefs should not include someone else’s marriage.

Casey Davis and Kim Davis? Related? Married? Just an interesting coincidence?

Not really important, just interesting…

Either way, I’ll help set up a GoPersecuteMe… sorry GoFundMe account for you if you’ll just shut up and quit.

Too much taxpayer money for that. Just into the side of Skeet Rock Knob (or Potato Knob? Gross Knob? Joe Knob? – not sure which has more comedy punch… and those Kentuckians sure love their knobs!).

LOL. Oh, no – you had it Spot-On with the first designation. If you don’t mind, I’d like to use that from time to time.

Rather than grant licenses to gay couples in light of the Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage, at least two county clerks in Kentucky are not issuing marriage licenses to any couples – gay or straight – for the time being.

Lets do without licenses, lets get rid of them.
We shouldn’t have to ask permission to get married to no one.

But only because we don’t have a cannon that can reach the sun. How about into the sea? We could make that happen…

One can only hope those counties have large “rainy day” funds, otherwise the impending lawsuits both civil and Federal may bankrupt them…

I’m not aware of any religions that provide rules for how county clerks should handle the processing of government documents.

As others have previously pointed out, no one has a Constitutional right to be a county clerk.

It really is that simple and nobody should have an ounce of sympathy for these clerks.

If you work in civil service.you work for all of the people in your county, not just the ones you like. If you can’t do that, you can’t work in civil service. You need to find another job.

Public defenders have to defend rapists, drug dealers, child molesters, all manner of people. What they don’t get to do is refuse to defend someone based on their belief system. They do their job. So do your job, or get a different. one.

Well in KuntFucky it does

I don’t really have any sympathy for them either.

I just wanted to make a Futurama reference.

Except that your position breaks the law; theirs doesn’t.

Resign or be fired for insubordination.
