Where’s the line between “Hate Crime” and “Terrorism”?
“More at eleven”
That might as well be the lead-in before commercials from the MSM. When EVERYTHING is a commodity to be merchandised, then the senses get numbed (until a Mental person takes seriously what we, as comsumers, are supposed to look at as something like what’s in a film).
I spoke to my son-in-law and son Christmas Day. They are both under 40. Their take on all of this is markedly different than that of older folks. Much more calm.
After inviting them to say what was on their minds (during which I was quiet for the entire time), I gave them the Bad News:
“This is the world we left you.”
That depends who is included in the “WE” . If you mean ‘WE AMERICANS’ then you are mistaken.
There have been a few dozen genocides worldwide since the Holocaust. “Never Again” doesn’t mean squat. Pol Pot certainly never received the memo.
My guess is that the reporter probably knows the distinction perfectly well but didn’t bother to mention it because it really isn’t relevant. Its probably somewhat tricky to bring the difference up without making it seem that the lede is about mistaken identity as opposed to bigotry.
I wish I could be shocked by the sheer ignorance (repeatedly) displayed by the folks who can’t make the distinction, but I can’t. I live in a community with quite a few South Asian folks, including many Sikh’s, and more than once an American colleague visiting us has dropped a remark like “It’s interesting how many Arabs you have around here”. None of them seemed to mean the slightest offence (or were wise enough to suppress it, not knowing how the audience would react) – they’re simply observing how the demographic is different from where they live. However it’s an amazing leap to me each time it happens, since one’s view of Muslims in general and Arabs in particular has to closely resemble something from the Aladdin cartoons to have any chance of making this screw up.
–Edit-- To clarify, my point is that the attacks on Sikhs demonstrate some of the underlying ignorance behind the Muslim-bashing so prevalent of late. The perpetrators aren’t simply displaying their hatred of Muslims and ignorance about Sikhs – they’re displaying their ignorance about Muslims too, since only someone with a cartoonish view of the latter would make this screw-up. Simply put, Sikh men look a bit more like the silly Aladdin caricature than actual Muslims do…
Way Off on a Tangent…Fresno Bee.
There is a town in Arkansas— DeQueen. Their newspaper Bee.
Now say it altogether…
Folks should know well to leave what they don’t understand alone.
Got it…and the MSM does not care if they help destroy the nation as it is all about $$$. Look at the news tonight, you have got to think there was more news than ABC hyping Star Wars again during their broadcast… $$$ 100% of the time…
Sadly, you are right, but that does not diminish our responsibility to do what we can to prevent more.
“Kill them all and let God sort them out,” to paraphrase an infamous bishop. On the one hand, an act like this contains enormous ignorance as well as bigotry, but on the other it’s a perfect expression of tribal violence. It doesn’t matter who someone is, as long as they’re not part of your group. The fact that they’re not part of the group that’s not responsible for the violent acts of some of its members is almost a bonus when it comes to spreading terror.
This kind of attack tells one everything one needs to know about the level of intelligence of Islamaphobes. One would think the big-ass turban would be a give-away.
Sikhs and Muslims have a long history of religious warfare, but to the totally disconnected American religious right, they all look alike. Haters gotta hate.
