McCarthy is the last of the self-proclaimed “Young Guns” of the Republican Party.
Thing is, McCarthy is no longer that young and doesn’t have much of a gun.
At least Scalise can claim to have taken a bullet for the Party.
I wonder if ol’ Kevin will be seeking the vote his good friend Vladimir Rohrbacher.
Also, has he saved up enough money to buy a brain, or is that just something he’ll outsource to the Koch brothers?
Speaker ? Have you heard him talk ? “Hungria” ! enough said !
Just give it to Louie Gohmert and get it over with
Scalise is viewed as more conservative than McCarthy, important in a House GOP conference that’s drifted to the right. That could be intensified after November, when Republicans are expected to lose seats and many of those departing will be moderates.
Exactly. When the Rethugs lose the House (and they will) at that point, they might as well go all in for the Confederate Party. McC is truly incompetent and doesn’t’ have the respect of much of the House; he has the respect of the donors who want a modestly conservative leader. The actual House could give a sh*t at this point. And they’re right. As the GOP becomes more and more of a regional Party, why not elect someone who truly represents them?
They should let McCarthy be Speaker for a few months this term, Republicans are going extinct in California next November.
Louie deserves to be Speaker of the House. Or, put another way, the House deserves Louie for its Speaker.
Interesting that the headline is “McCarthy Easily Out-Raises Scalise”, but the article makes absolutely zero mention of either of their fund raising capabilities.
Meanwhile, Scalise has this story published about his fund raising over at Politico on the same day.
It’s particularly interesting, because fund raising is one aspect of the job that Ryan had no stomach for doing. And is probably why he get pulled in so deep by Russian money in 2016; it was an easy way for him to do something he was required to do, but loathed doing.
Ohmygawd!
Rep. Kevin McCarthy is an actual chowderhead! He is the simpleton who was overheard to publicly comment about which of his fellow GOP reps were on Putin’s payroll! He’s also dumber than a bag of hammers and cannot speak in full sentences (from being dropped on his head so frequently).
Yeah, another Tip O’Neill that one!
Kevin McCarthy cannot form a complete sentence.
McCarthy, 53, an affable California who has developed a rapport with Trump, is from a Central Valley district.
That’s incorrect. Nunes is from a Central Valley district. McCarthy represents (You don’t know me but you don’t like me) Bakersfield. Oil capital of Californ-y.
“If the showdown between California Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise for House speaker is a popularity contest…”
SPEAKER? Minority leader, maybe. Even the Repukes are saying they will lose the House come November. And there is a very good chance every 'Puke in California will get canned in November, so good-bye McCarthy.
Even House Republicans think McCarthy is as dumb as a brick.
I agree with southerndem with uncontrollable roaring laughter:
Can’t like that one enough.
I’m all in favor of Kevin McCarthy being minority leader!
Who cares about Rumpublican wastes of carbon jockeying for the Minority Leader’s position? Who’s going to step up and give Nancy Pelosi a run for her money? Much like Clinton, Biden and Sanders, she had a good run and made a difference. Now she’s old and should assume the roles of elder stateswoman, advocate, and master fund raiser.
More likely all of Texas turns blue than it is for Bakersfield to flip. Not saying it’s completely impossible, but I wouldn’t go placing any bets on that.
Blind Pig. Also manna from heaven if Dems ever learn to use it correctly.
It made me laugh that the article described McCarthy as “affable.” Blissfully ignorant of his repulsiveness would have been more accurate. And Scalise…if these are the two leading contenders for Minority Leader…the “Grand Old Party is really floundering,” as JFK once famously joked.
I have always believed that the California Okies were smarter than the Oklahoma ones, that’s why they left. They might finally realize that Trump and the GOP have been conning them.
