Discussion: 'Art Of The Deal' Ghostwriter Regrets Trump Book: 'I Put Lipstick On A Pig'

Almost 30 years after writing this book, receiving half of the advance and years of royalties, he suddenly has a mea culpa! Bullshit.

Are we supposed to praise him for donating the royalties earned in 2016? How magnanimous. How about donating ALL royalties from this day forward if you really feel this culpable in the situation.

This guy is as good as Trump in generating publicity for himself.
He knew what you he was doing benefited from it and now found a way to benefit some more. That’s why he was chosen.

Schmutz begets schmutz

When I read this New Yorker article earlier this morning, I imaged a number of establishment GOP heads exploding. There is really nothing in the article we haven’t already surmised, but this time its not hearsay or pontificating – its a close-up eyewitness testimonial by Trump’s own ghostwriter and its devastating. Seriously – somewhere some GOP leaders are having a meeting about this piece in utter (and futile panic) and right on the first day of the GOP so its all everyone will be talking about. I am perplexed this man’s observations weren’t revealed to the public a long time ago, except that maybe he was afraid. I also fret that it is coming too late – but could it be the timing is perfect if the media collectively does the right thing? This story must be decimated widely – and media outlets must do so without fear of reprisal from Trump. After all, he cannot sue everyone for reporting on a highly credible, published story.

Why should we care about his motives? As long as it helps to defeat Trump at the ballot box it’s all good.

@ralph_vonholst, you are spot on in this assessment.

Remember Biden / Palin 2008?

They tried very hard to spin it in her direction just for the fact she showed up and stood at the lectern.
Luckily Tina Fey was around to put things in perspective in a way that mattered to the masses who are captured by optics and no substance.

I am all good for defeting Trump come November and I will be happy however we get there.
It doesn’t mean that I will praise those who are this self serving in the process.

Editing a book actually written by Trump would be akin to pushing a chain uphill.

Even if the messenger is late, the message is still credible and important to heed. Your take down of the messenger sounds like you are channeling Trump.

Trump: I love it, sales of my book will go even higher. More money for me. Thanks Mr Schwartz, lets write another book about how much of sociopath I am.

Has anyone demanded his college transcripts?

I fear you have a point here, though I still think she should debate him.

No doubt the “analysis” would be revolting. “That searing accusation that he brought against Hillary–‘There’s something going on here.’ Wow! It was positively Reaganesque. Shades of “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” And judging from her body language trying to answer that devastating criticism made her really uncomfortable.”

Part of the problem Republicans had is that the best and easiest way to combat Trump was always to attack him with facts and from the left. They needed to point out his bullshit, but to do so they would’ve had to debunk a lot of right wing talking points. So they were stuck between a rock and a hard place, do you expose his lies and risk pissing off the very voters you’re trying to attract?
Another thing that’s different is that most of the primary candidates were either trying to remain friendly with Trump or simply stay off his radar. Guys like Huckabee and Cruz spent most of the campaign trying to kiss Trump’s ass in hopes of scooping up his voters when he dropped out. Guys like Carson just didn’t want to draw his ire.

None of this is going to happen with Clinton. She wants to slap him around, her voters desperately want her to beat his ass like a rented mule. She is armed with bullshit blasting facts and she’s going to happily attack him from the left.
As for charisma, again, what worked during the primary isn’t likely to transfer in the general. The enraged, delusional Republican debate audience isn’t the general election audience. Just calling Clinton a series of names won’t be nearly as impressive or charismatic to the general electorate. They’re not going to appreciate hearing him repeatedly make racist and offensive comments about the president they elected twice, a president who now enjoys a fairly high approval rating. A lot of what worked for Trump in the primary is going to have the exact opposite effect in the general.

From the people who know Donald best.

Schwartz’s observations were too spot-on to be made up. Donald’s ending accusations — all about him — cement the impression widely held of him.

Republicans have chosen an imbalanced, immoral sociopath, who should be under intensive medical care, and as far away from the White House as humanly possible.

I highly doubt he had any idea that writing that book would 30 years later lead to Trump becoming the GOP presidential nominee.

You are absolutely right in that.

I always find these kind of stories to be trash.

…Schwartz sold his soul for money so own it and stop winning. He was a grown man when he did it, so he doesn’t get a do-over.

[severely edited to tone down my over the top disapproval of Schwartz]

If that’s the way you interpret my comment. I respect that.

[Schwartz said that if he could rename the book, he would call it “The Sociopath.”

“I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization,” he said.]

Schwartz added that after the end, at least big government will be gone, too…so I guess, to the GOP, we come out ahead.

Antonio Sabato Jr was just on MSNBC. Wow, is this guy stupid. I guess being a model was good because he didnt have to open his mouth.

Sabàto was born in Rome, Italy. His mother, Yvonne Kabouchy, is a realtor born in Prague (in the former Czechoslovakia), and his father, Antonio Sabàto Sr., is an Italian actor born in Montelepre, Province of Palermo, Sicily, Italy.[1][2] His maternal grandfather was a Czech aristocrat, and his maternal grandmother was Jewish and survived the Holocaust.[3][4] Sabàto’s family moved to the United States when he was 13, in 1985.[3] He attended St. Bernard High School (Los Angeles, California), before transferring to Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California. Sabàto became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1996.[5]

Well truthfully most of what he says about Trump is readily apparent, this just confirms what he comes across as is who he is. And truthfully that’s what his supporters like about him. So I really don’t think he’s sold us anything that’s not clear to anyone that’s paying attention.

OK, I’m going to say my piece about the debate and then retreat. Before I do, I hope everything you are saying is true, plucky, and that I will be wrong.

Donald Trump is going to debate a person who is 1) a woman, 2) smarter than he is, 3) knows more, and 4) can back up what she knows with facts. The only defense he will have will be to shout her down. He has nothing else. He will interrupt continuously, and when the moderators timidly try to stop him, he will simply say, “I’m not going to stand here and say nothing while she tells nothing but lies about me,” and then go on interrupting.

He will throw everything at her - Whitewater, Vince Foster, Benghazi, emails, everything, probably in rapid fire succession, not allowing her to speak at all. He will deny facts about himself that are verifiably true and will say that Clinton is lying again, “Like she always does and always has.”

She can stand there and take it calmly, she can smirk (bad mistake, so I hope not), but there will be no way that usual debate techniques will work with this sociopathic loudmouth. I think the only way she’ll have a chance to salvage the debate will be to treat him as the nasty, vicious, two-year old he really is.

Everybody is looking forward to the debates to see Trump get his comeuppance by Clinton, but my fear is that the debates will actually be horrible, uglier than hell, spectacles.
