The protesters said that they were speaking out against Black Lives Matter for focusing on black victims of police violence.
So, you folks protest at the NAACP? As a white American, I join my brothers and sisters of the BLM movement in speaking out against police violence against black Americans. The patterns have been well documented many law enforcement agencies across this nation target some people of color for harsher treatment and outright violence. Sometimes that violence leads to death and ruined lives. There is no excuse for it. Do they do it to white people? Of course they do – but, again, the patterns show a concerted effort with some law enforcement agencies and some officers to target people by race more so than by other social markers.
No discrimination, harassment or violence by LEOs is acceptable – this is true – no one is saying otherwise. By speaking up against the established patterns based on race is not elevating one type of bad action over another. Given this nation’s history, it makes perfect sense to focus on the worst of the bad actions. I will stand with anyone who stands against those bad actions. To reiterate, though, the BLM movement speaks up against the worst of the bad. They are not elevating one type of very bad action over another – and these WLM protesters know this. They are being disingenuous with their argument(s) against the NAACP and BLM.
We place a special responsibility upon the shoulders of law enforcement to protect us, to keep the peace. Every person has an inalienable right to be safe, everyone. BLM is not arguing otherwise – they never have. Additionally, they are not advocating, nor condoning, violence against law enforcement–it is a lie to claim they do.
This white Southerner stands against these white protesters – proudly so.
