Discussion for article #227176
This is just as bad as finally requiring the Ferguson police to wear cameras.
“I’m disgusted that we even need such a law — that parents can’t be trusted to not give a machine gun to a 9-year-old girl,” Rep. Victoria Steele (D) told the Phoenix New Times.
Blame the range owner, the idiotic parents thought they were treating their daughter to a ride at fucking Disneyland.
Well so much for freedom and liberty! Fuckin’ gun-grabbing commie.
First they came for my child’s machine gun and I said nothing.
I, as a resident of Arizona, also blame my state’s legislature for a whole series of really stupidly lax gun laws. the legislature here thinks it’s perfectly fine to carry a gun into a bar (enacted), or a school (passed but vetoed by the governor), and they did away with permits for concealed carry and the attendant gun safety and gun law classes that used to be required to get the now non-existent permit.
(pounds-head-on-desk).
I know that this isn’t about outright gifts, but giving a machine gun to a kid reminds me of The Kinks song “Father Christmas”.
Drive a car - 16 years old - or older
Sky dive -16 years old
Buy a Drink - 21 years old
Fly a plane - 16 years old
Age to get a GUN permit /license - 18 /21 depending on type
So this should be a non-issue … but it will not.
OMFG they are coming to take our gunz!!
FEMA camps!!! Gay sons!!! Shariah law!!! Arugula and mustard on our burgers!!! Run to the daycare and get your toddler to the gun range before the Constitution is blown away forever!!!
There will be a tipping point to this “gun rights over everything else” madness. Maybe, just maybe, the 9 year-old with the Uzi was it?
Love ya, and love Sedona, but not a chance in hell. If cutting twenty-some children to ribbons in Newtown wasn’t enough…
Based on the nation’s reaction to the ISIS beheadings, what we need is to publish the autopsy photos of the victims, as horrific as that sounds. As soon as we stop televising the carnage, it becomes a don’t-care with the public.
You forgot forcing us to buy compact fluorescent bulbs!
We would all like to hope so, but I am not that confident. In my day, parents of a nine-year old took photos or slides of their child playing violin in a recital, wearing their winning sport team’s uniform, or standing beside their science project. These parents were videotaping their child firing an automatic weapon while practicing to kill other human beings. We have a long way to go . . .
I wish. Maybe if she brought it to a Congressional committee hearing to testify how easily a 9-yr old could handle an Uzi, accidentally fired the full magazine, and killed half the GOP members, the child of a conservative radio show host, and the wife of a conservative newspaper columnist. Maybe.
Sorry, had Benghazi on my mind. Squirrel!
Last Thursday, the Arizona Republic ran an editorial on this horrible tragedy, headlined “It’s irresponsible to use firearms as toys.” It insisted “Kids should learn … that guns do kill”, and condemned “adults who [lack] the good sense to treat weapons with proper respect.”
Then the “Things To Do” section of that same paper ran a full-color photograph of men dressed in 1880s costume, in a street lined with onlookers (including several families with children clearly visible in the background), pretending to shoot and kill each other with handguns.
The caption read, “Mock lead will fly in Tombstone this weekend.” The article recommended a family road trip to enjoy “the most storied gunfight in Arizona history” with a weekend of “street entertainment.”
Grown men. Pretending to shoot and kill each other. For the amusement of families with children (“10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday - Monday”). Labeled as “street entertainment.”
(And don’t even get me started on the lineup of heavily-armed, gratuitously-violent “entertainment” in the “Movie Preview” and “TV Listings” sections….)
Truly, irony is dead.
She plans to maybe introduce legislation in 2015 if she gets reelected. So, in the meantime, shoot away Arizona tweens!
Another sissified fema-Nazi taking advantage of what happened in the real world to come up with a solution that would make things better for people, instead of basing her legislation on Western movies and what the gun companies tell her to do.
I tell you what. Next thing y’know they’re gonna outlaw me feeding uranium to my child so that I can turn him into the Incredible Hulk! That bastard, Obama!
I wonder if she’s ready for the sliming she’s going to get from the NRA and their fellow-traveling cons.
Yes, who could have guessed that giving machine guns to children would be a bad idea?
