Discussion: Are Maine Gov. Paul LePage's Days In Office Numbered?

those within LePage’s own party are beginning to publicly wonder if LePage is fit to serve

Are you freaking kidding me?!

This was your first clue?

Similar to what Trump could do to down-ballot candidates, LePage’s latest outburst comes just weeks before the November election and Republican state lawmakers must decide if they are willing to let LePage potentially sink them.

If this is their concern, then the Republicans absolutely do not have the best interest of the people of Maine as their primary concern. FFS.

When you say numbered, are we talking about a large number or say a number less than 10, like, maybe 5 or 3 or even 2?

Like with Nixon and Watergate, the GOP can’t support its leader now.

It’s just a matter of time now for this slob to be thrown out.

Not being overly familiar with Maine politics, I’m at a bit of a loss to make any educated prediction. If the Republicans there are anything like they are in the rest of the nation, I’d recommend the Democrats play this out, flip the Senate and can his ass after November – once and for all. Play it up for the voters, tell them exactly what you’ll do should you (the Democrats) take over the Senate and keep the House, and don’t mince words, be as direct as I am here: “We plan on holding a special session the first possible moment we hold the majority, with the intent on impeaching the governor and replacing him with our own elected Leader … then elect a new Leader once that person is sworn in as Governor of the Great State of Maine.”

Maine is too great and wonderful a state to let LePage continue.

Governor LePig can say and do whatever he wants in our state. The Republicans control the Senate and they have already made it very clear they are choosing party (sticking with LePig) over our state and over our nation.

Basically: The Republicans are committing treason by choosing an autocrat over democracy.

LePig is a baby Donald Trump. Nationally, the Republicans are committing treason by standing by Trump and his authoritarian idealism which is a dangerous threat to our Democracy.

Republicans are choosing Stalin Over Democracy.

This is all a big bullshit show. Maximum CYA.

LePage isn’t going anywhere. He says what they all believe, they just wouldn’t be so crude about it.

Oooh! Censure! Like telling this idiot he’s a naughty boy will change anything.

Just like phony moderates Collins and Snow, when the vote matters, they are obedient wingnuts.

Not going to happen. Republicans never resign over anything. If A dem had uttered LePig’s words, the press and repugs would be relentless in calling for them to step down. Power at any cost is how repugs roll. This will be ignored and LePig will say some other highly offensive thing in a few days or weeks and serve out his term.

Then thou shalt count to three – no more, no less
Three shall be the number thou shalt count
And the number of the counting shall be three
Four, shalt thou not count
Neither count two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

LePage is mentally unstable - next to impossible to argue otherwise - yet the National & State of Maine GOP will cling to him in a twisted sort of - “never give an inch - concede nothing” - win at any cost - mentality… and because they really do subliminally get aroused when he spews his ugly thoughts and statements - it tantalizes their dark side.
They have driven out - or neutralized the members of their party who would stand on principle - who would stand unwavering on matters of conscience - they have cynically derided speaking out on situations that call for moral & ethical integrity - as wimpy “political correctness” -

Sounds kinda like kabuki to me. The republicans make noises that they might possibly censure LePage if there were a special session, and that boosts their chances of not getting stomped in November, thus letting them entirely off the hook.

I’m fascinated by the possibilities suggested by the GOP remark that LePage’s current problem might be due to substance abuse – is he drinking too much, or abusing prescription drugs, or does he have that binder so that he can scout for his next connection?

My Mom always told me to put my brain in gear before I move my lips which was something that never sunk into the pea-brain of LePage!

LePage is showing us how a Trump Presidency would play out!

I got curious about the grounds for impeachment in Maine, and the state constitution is quite broad:

Every person holding any civil office under this State, may be removed by impeachment, for misdemeanor in office;

That’s not referring to a misdemeanor, as opposed to a felony - it’s the simpler, dictionary definition of the word - bad deeds. No need to cite anything like “high crimes.” No need for an actual violation of a criminal statute. It would appear that they can kick him to the curb for being outrageous.

Impeachment, of course, is always a political act, rather than a legal one.

He is drinking too much. That is a fact. I know 3 people who know him/work in govmnt. He is a notorious alcoholic on top of being a natural asshole. The combination in his case is nearly lethal.

edit: If people want him to resign, they needed to be following up on this angle.

How quaint that members of both parties are considering their own political futures rather than the good of the state.

The window of opportunity for LePage to redeem himself has closed. The lege must act now.
