Skimming thru, I think he even went beyond subtext and ventured into the explicit territory of “because everyone knows these racist assholes will do it anyway if July 1st rolls around and there’s no court order in place to stop them.”
Yeah, that was a pretty thorough smackdown in there…
Have to wonder if that wasn’t primarily intended for a certain dude at the Supreme Court to read, also. Was very strong language, I thought.
Wednesday is the last day listed on their calendar for decisions.
Tell Trump the funds are for his wall. Later, tell him, “Oops!”
A remand isn’t a decision. It’s waiting to consider evidence. Roberts is a hardcore right winger, but this is the smart move. And, lest we forget, he has a lifetime position.
It really is a sad state of affairs when our own Justice Department is advocating for hurrying up a SCOTUS decision, to not include any and all relevant information to consider in making their ultimate decision. The Barr DoJ is a wholly owned subsidiary of tRump and Co. Criminal Enterprises LLC and it continues to act in that manner on every issue that tRump orders them to do, including not defending the PPACA, a law on the books, as is their duty.
So it seems the race is on to see who will reach the finish line first. Unfortunately, I think the race has already been rigged and SCOTUS will make a political rather than legal judgement in the end. I do so hope I’m wrong, but everything tells me the five rightwing justices have proven to be bad-faith actors when it comes to voting rights thus far. Its such a big decision that will be us for a very long time if they vote in this administration’s favor. I still believe in my heart and against all odds, cheaters shouldn’t prosper.
True, it’s the smart move, and the right one. And in any other case, I’d be totally confident he’d kick it back.
But with a 1 July deadline for the printer, any punting essentially strikes the question off the census by default, as there’s not enough time to get all the decisions back.
And we all will be shocked, shocked and dumbfounded when the Supremes shut it all down. With some patented gobligoo that no one understands.
The census case is more imminently harmful than the gerrymandering case. Remember that Democrats can play at gerrymandering in states where they control the government. I live in Illinois, and If SCOTUS gives a green light to extreme and undemocratic gerrymandering then the remnants of my state’s GOP will be killed off except for a handful of (rural) areas. Other states will follow suit.
I’m wondering whether or not the gop already has what it wanted. All anyone in the disconnected public will know is that they wanted to put the question on the census and they’ll try to avoid participating if they don’t trust the process.
We will see in a couple of days. We both hope you’re wrong. I certainly am not prescient so I know I’m just hoping Roberts isn’t a complete piece of shit.
Hey, I am totally hoping that I’m wrong, and that Roberts does chicken out.
I think I owe a few internet shots to someone if my prediction doesn’t come true, which I’d happily pay.
Fox News will confirm their biases.
I agree. I think they’d love to punt this, then they don’t have to worry about it again for another decade.

Thomas is very big on the original text and on undoing obviously erroneous decisions that strayed outside the borders of the document.
They will grant personhood to districts.
The Federalist Society will take care of its own. I hope they stay long enough for the judge to impose sanctions and that a complaint is made to the Bars to which they belong.
“… and move on.” was a good one.
Agree. Johnny the Robber Baron is a Corporatist but he is also a Republican. And the chance to increase the vote for the GOP in the case of an irreversible voter demographic would be extremely important to the survival of his Party.
Problem is he still has a minute sense of legacy, small but measurable. Should he decide Party over Country he will bend over backwards to craft a decision that will be a major cya Statement.
This might be something if the current members of the Supreme Court actually used precedent to come to their decisions. Most of them are partisan hacks who just vote Republican no matter what previous SC’s ruled. And again, thanks Joe for Clarence Thomas.
