Discussion: AP: Senators To Introduce Bill To Protect Robert Mueller

He’s a coward. Most likely he’ll sign it and release another whiny statement that Congress is SO MEAN YOU GUYS and this is sooo unconstitutional but he’s too busy to take it to the Supreme Court.

DT seems to suffer from “Undescended Testicle Syndrome.” This is the counter to that.

Uh oh…Trumpy no likee!

He’ll come out swinging at every Republican who votes for this. I’m disappointed in a way. I was looking forward to the chaos if Trump were to fire Mueller. I guess it isn’t going to happen now.

Let’s face it, with tRump’s sharp decline and sinking poll numbers, having Mueller in there as a failsafe is the best and only option Republicans still have to insure they can wiggle out of the mess they’ve enabled all along with regards to this nutjob’s behavior in office.

It really has been Republicans exclusively, who have allowed this shitshow to continue, without doing a fucking thing about it. The way I see it, it’s so much easier for them to put the onus on Mueller to bail them out of taking responsibility to investigate this Man-baby destroying the country, instead of them doing the work. They could’ve run these committees like they had consequences from the beginning, but it always appeared more like pulling teeth to get them to assert their authority in this matter. I’m still not convinced they really give a shit unless it affects their election chances, or majorities in Congress. Its still party before country for most of these opportunists.

Well, good on them for at least protecting Mueller, but unless this bill is veto proof too, I really can’t see that childish whiner in the White House signing this thing. I can only imagine the signing statement on this one!

If Congress was really serious about reining in Trump, they could give Mueller prosecuting powers instead of just having the awesome power of filing a secret report to a Justice Department that’s run by Sessions and Trump. Just saying.

Congress passed the nepotism law after Bobby Kennedy, which clearly restricts the President’s staffing abilities.

But more importantly, what they are doing here is merely codifying more specifically, a rule that is already in place by naming precisely which court Mueller can appeal any decision by the DoJ to fire him. Trump and/or the DoJ wouldn’t have much of a case arguing that the rules they themselves have in place are unconstitutional.

He’s losing whatever capital he has left…and they know it. Which is why Republicans are starting to hedge their bets and give themselves an easy out without having to do the heavy lifting.

Interesting to read folks’ reactions To Thom’s recent action.

Hot Springs, Arkansas, right?

Questions though:
Could McConnell stop this bill if he wanted to?
If the bill passes both chambers, are there enough votes for a veto override?

No, Shalimar Florida.

This is an interesting comparison of where Donald and Tillis stand on issues.

Depending on the support from his out caucus on this, not without cutting his own throat. With Tillis being the republican introducing the bill, my early guess is this will have pretty large republican support in the Senate.

We will have to see the head count, but my early guess is probably. The political risks in voting this down are substantial…it will be seen as green lighting the firing of Mueller. And that won’t play very well as we go forward.

That’s why its kind of an unusual move at this point. Tillis is putting his own party on the spot.

I think it will fly. The man is clearly bonkers, imagining phone calls flattering him for his pathetic speeches, e.g. They HAVE to move top protect Mueller, or there will be no constraints on this man’s sheer madness.

This is the wrong approach. Been done before and doesn’t work.

The threat of impeachment and actual impeachment and conviction is a much better solution and is already in place.

The Freedom Caucus has showing they are eager enable The Russian intelligence services access to and control over our executive branch, and intelligence services if it will get some negative press for their opposition (i.e. American people).

So there is nothing they find objectionable about Trump other than the fact that he is incompetent and unable to help them get legislation passed. In other words, true to form Freedom Caucus will finally dump Trump when they need someone to blame for their own incompetence.

I think it might pass, but agree that there are enough crazies that it might not be veto proof. The sanctions bill threw enough red-meat on non-Russia related sanctions that it was different. Also, this one can’t be read in any other way, except as a rebuke against the president.
