Discussion: AP Deletes Tweet About Clinton’s State Dept Meetings With Foundation Donors

It’s Dwyane Wade.

Yes, it’s an unusual spelling, but it’s spelled the same as it was when you misspelled (and fixed) it last month. It’s the man’s name. Spell it correctly.

Now, back to the story. Better late than never, AP? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

He’s held em

There was that after the convention presser, which had Kelly O’ Donnell reported that Pence got chosen, because the constitution said so.

Then there was that time (i think it was the Russian invite deal) in which he accused Katy Tur of being a Clinton supporter.

So yea, he’s had pressers.

Were they normal ones?

Nope

Your brilliant spot-on description is widely applicable.

“We regret the way in which New York Times standards were misrepresented
by virtually every article we’ve published about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump,
and for the impression our staff are second-rate stenographers
more concerned with personal ambition and preening egos than with
factual reporting.”

“We apologize for the implication they sacrifice all credibility by
phoning in debate on serious matters, in the mistaken impression that
sucking-up to power and an adolescent need for approval come before the
interests of the readers they supposedly serve.”

“We lament any suggestion they are wretched little toadies with zero
concern for the critical issues facing our nation, or self-seeking
vermin with epic, self-important narcissism and craven partisanship that
some readers might find offensive.”

Carl Bernstein labeled post-Reagan America, “The Idiot Culture.” I’m thinking he was an optimist.

So were the creators of “Idiocracy.” That was set 500 years in the future.

But the reviews were pitiful. So what went wrong? That’s what journalists both inside and outside NBC are asking now. There is no clear answer.

Oh for fuck’s sake, the answer is as clear as the spray tan on the orange shitgibbon. Matt Lauer is no more a journalist than I’m an NFL defensive end. He’s a lightweight reader on what passes for news on American television. Put him in a situation requiring actual knowledge and a passion for meaningful truth, and all he has in his arsenal is either craven pandering or mindless fluffing.

Was Lauer a bridge too far that caused some soul searching? This sexism by Lauer, Charlie Rose(yes, he is one of my favorites) but when it come to Hillary he is up there with the worst, Preibus, and women reporters from Diane Sawyer to Katie Couric has been going on so long. Take a look.

Lightweight reader indeed. Not fit for anything else, that’s why he’s on in the morning when people who watch are also getting dressed and just want happy talk in the background.

Story above says that “in a blog post, the AP explained explained that the tweet was misleading and “not backed up” by its own reporting.”

This misstates what AP actually said. AP itself did not say this. but instead attributed the “misleading” and “not backed up” remarks to others. Read the blog post:

“The tweet sent on Aug. 23 was the subject of criticism from supporters of Clinton, a number of people in the media and others who said it gave a distorted picture of the secretary’s meetings and was not backed up by the AP’s own reporting.”

Now if we can just get the New York Fucking Times to do the same with about 40 percent of its political coverage.

Yeah…we’ll leave it out there for two weeks KNOWING it was a lie, gave InfoWars and Drudge enough time to consolidate their meme and THEN say…oops…my bad. AHOLES.

Last presser I saw, you couldn’t hear the reporters’ questions.

That was the point, and why they left it up for 2 weeks. They wanted to ensure that it got maximum visibility and usefulness. It was discredited in the first 24 hours.

Those were (more or less) “interviews,” yes?

I’m talking a full-blown press conference with an international gaggle. You know, the kind Ari used to chastise people of what they could and could not speak about.

Yeah. This guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDp16KSlwUc

Herr Coir-Coif’s never done one. He couldn’t survive one.

I got the “Matt Lauer” subject line email and clicked the $8 button. Website works great. Clicks through directly to the Thank You page because I’ve saved my payment info.

Please take my $8 and shove it up Trump’s (and now the APs) ass.

You are welcome. I’ve been following Eichenwald (a fan) and so was able to catch this exchange… well, not even an exchange, as Todd is a complete ass and can’t engage in a good faith dialogue. But Eichenwald got to the core of the problem in that industry there while exposing Todd, so thought it was worth posting.

I get a ton of email from the campaign and I donate monthly. Glad you did something similar.

APNews standards? Every election season – this is the fourth election cycle that I can remember – the so-called APNews standards seem to hew to the alt-right propaganda.
