My point is that she is different and presenting herself that way. She doesn’t need to be part of the constant outrage machine that is all about collecting $.
She is very popular,. She just doesn’t need it. The political consulting machine, however, drives everything. Someone researched the hell out of why its best to ask for $3 a pop. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole fundraising thing is outsourced and not really part of her personal political strategy.
A lot of people in the DC area where I live are getting very rich off the machinery of electoral politics. And yes the skimming that goes on in normal charity fundraising is atrocious. Cops, firefighters and veterans are the biggest victims of those scams.
Of course it does. Wanting to be re-elected is the root of all that is wrong with politics. Try doing the right thing and deserving to be re-elected.
For the most part I think AOC has this right. She is leading and taking on entrenched powers. She has a talent for self-promotion but I honestly think she has a better talent for just speaking her mind when others are too afraid of the potential fallout. it is new and it is different especially for a freshman who had no name recognition at all before her primary victory.
I feel like none of this fundraising stuff is personally connected to elected officials these days. They all sound the same. Its like you just buy your subscription to the party’s professional fundraising service and that’s that.
