Lee ? Come on, he had to wear the confederate uniform !
OT: What time does Mueller usually come in ? Asking for a friend…
It’s truly amazing that these folks really forgot all about Appomattox and that their side lost. Still fighting the Civil War, 100+ years later. And of course, the Vulgar Talking Yam has simply given them license to crawl out from under their rocks.
- There will be no outcry from Republicans and demands that he resign because “There were good people on both sides.”
- Never understood why the uniforms and colors of the losing, traitorous side are tolerated.
- At least the white pointy hood isn’t showing in the picture.
On a scale of who gives a shit to holy shit! this one falls in at meh for me.
This is stupid.
According to a poll taken of a sample of Virginians regarding the similar Northam saga, your opinion seems to be shared.
From “Me Too” to “Him Too?”
Doncha know that dressing as a Nazi is popular?
Seems we might need one of those South Africa Truth and Reconciliation things…
I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked that a young white man in 1980 Alabama would dare wear a confederate uniform in public.
this is the least offensive thing i’ll read all week.
What’s the big deal? It’s not like it’s a neighboring state’s senator posing with a confederate re-enactor during her election campaign just last year.
Two things that were totally predictable (and will continue to be):
- Lots of politicians, mostly in the Bible Belt, will pop up in traitor’s uniforms
- GOTPers will walk away from such discoveries with no loss to themselves
Growing up in the South, having ancestors and a history with the region spanning many areas of your life, like school and church and home, evidently has left a legacy the people there just can’t escape. Not coming from the region it’s difficult to understand, but I guess if I try hard and squint a bit I can empathize somewhat when various people, especially in their youth, let seep the worst of the bullshit into their public persona. Blackface, Confederate uniforms and flags, off color humor and epithets. It’s a poison embedded in their very DNA. 100+ years of history and laws haven’t washed it out yet. Likely 100 more won’t either.
Where there are KA chapters there are going to be Confederate Uniforms even worn by people from the winning side i.e. the North!
From a purely objective point of view, he’s in the uniform of an enemy of the United States.
Even if you set aside its (un-set-asidable) stain of racism, it’s the uniform of a criminal conspiracy that (literally) met the Constitution’s definition of treason.
Why is it any different from a WWII Nazi uniform?
Or a Cold War Soviet uniform?
I’m done listening to traitors lecture the rest of us about “patriotism” and “America: Love it or leave it!”
Suspect part of that is the self serving mythos created around that era. The overall atmosphere lends a false but cultural sense of honor to the uniform. So some of these people from the much later generations may not connect it as directly offensive, having been raised with that mythos. It would be very easy to see the guy in the uniform telling the guy in blackface he is uncool and remain clueless.
Hey, I live in Tennessee. The Republican mofo doesn’t have to wear a Confederate uniform. I already know he believes in the “Lost Cause”.
As a (white) product of the Deep South, I’ll chime in to at least partially agree with you. When I was a kid, the Confederacy was just seen as the history of Southerners, who we undeniably had been and could see echoes of all around even now. Racism, including blackface and the terms with which one referred to other races, was a separate issue. Sort of like the “former Confederacy” was simply the place and context, and racism was a separate thing – a necessary compartmentalization. It would be no weirder to wear a Confederate uniform than it would to wear your grandfather’s WWII bomber jacket. It’s just that, at a certain point, Southern kids learning about their history grapple with its dark side and its undeniable connection to racism and slavery. Or they don’t grapple with it, and let it ferment. And, apparently, become politicans.
