Discussion: Another Swing-District Republican Announces Retirement: Rodney Frelinghuysen

I used to live up there. Lots of $$$ in that district, and I think Trump’s Bedminster club also. Meaning lots of GOP types. I wouldn’t count the seat just yet.

And amazingly the stuff they shoveled up from behind the elephants is what ended up in CONgress and the Trump “Administration”…

All these low-life GOP scum can’t even stomach Trump’s vile existence. Trump could knock a buzzard off a shit wagon.

My British ancestors came in the early-mid 1700’s and the grandson of the first immigrant fought in the Revolutionary War. So #metoo! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Some of my most ancient ancestors were here before the Mayflower.

Is there a good Democratic candidate in the district? Maybe too many. The Democratic primary should be … interesting.

Vikings ? They got there before Columbus (and, according to Icelandic genetists brought one fertile woman back to Iceland).

Just curious, do we have a tally on how many women are running against retiring Rs, and how about how many running against current committee chairs? (I understand a D winner will not get the committee chair position automatically)

No, not vikings…native Indians of the Cherokee variety.

Maddow showed tape of his protesters showing up at the district office a few times. They were relentless. Hard work does pay off. And you finally got a D back in the governor’s office. Yay!

Sad thing is that would be an improvment over Trump…

Lets stop and savor the meaning of this. This guy raised $1.5M last report, and has $1.16M on hand. https://www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/summary?cid=N00000684

He is the chairman of the most sought after committee in congress, and is not termed out for til 2022 (were the Pubs to hold the house).

He is not leaving because he wants to spend more time with his kids, he is leaving because he went back over the holidays and found that a combo of his health care vote, alone with the horrible tax bill -which shafted his wealthy suburban voters, has made him radio-active. Old supporters are telling him they got shafted by his party, and he doubtlessly has polls telling him his is toast.

A guy like this only give up because he knows the die is cast, and he does not want to get yelled at by voters in 5 months of campaigning then loose his seat by 5-10%

This guy is actually one of the smarter republicans (he knew the danger of both the health care and tax scams) and his leaving presages what will happen to suburban republicans, who are all about to get wiped out. If you are a hack like Barbara Comstock, in VA, or Knight in CA, or Cauffman in CO, or Blum in Iowa, this is a fortaste of their impending loss.
