Discussion: Another Dem Senator Says He Won't Attend Netanyahu's Speech

I hope the entire dem side of the house is empty. I am sick of Netanyahu grandstanding and war mongering with the gop. We support Israel and defend it but Netanyahu should go home and make his positions known through proper diplomatic channels. He is angering this country and his own.

Do you also believe that Catholic Americans owe their primary allegiance to the Bishop of Rome? Or that Irish Catholic Americans owe their primary allegiance to the IRA?

I doubt very much that there would be, could be, more than a literal handful of Jews anywhere who think that Fundamentalist Christianists support the idea of Israel because of any fondness for Jews. Quite the contrary. And I have e-mailed each of my senators and congressman urging them to boycott and to encourage others to boycott. I am appalled that for purely partisan reasons the Speaker of the House of Representatives would invite Bibi to address a joint session of Congress for the primary purpose of sabotaging American foreign policy – even Winston Churchill did not address a joint session of Congress until after Pearl Harbor, on December 26, 1941. And Churchill and the British public and the American public stood united. Despite Bibi’s claim that he speaks for all Jews, he doesn’t speak even for all Israelis, and the forthcoming election will show whether he even speaks for half of them. And he certainly doesn’t speak for ME. Further I an angered that this exceptional honor be offered to a person who went out of his way to personally dis the Vice-President of the United States. Even if that Vice-President of the United States were to be a psychopath like Dick Cheney I would be angered.

I would hope that ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS would not cover it live.

In the Koranic end times, however, everyone is eventually saved by Allah the [truly] Merciful; no everlasting punishment, wailing and gnashing of teeth inflicted, which is unworthy of the Creator of all.

I suspect that Jews don’t give two figs and a fart for the Rapturous End Time imaginings of Xtianists. The short-term advantages of monetary and political support are irrefutable. And most politicos only think about the short term; in the long term, they will be out of office and dead (as will we all).

The recent provoking of Hezbollah seems to be such an attempt.

Those days are sadly over.

Good on ya, Senator Schatz! May your tribe increase to at least a minyan.

Yeah, I’m sure they chortle about exploiting the nutbars’ superstitions. But they never consider the fact that a supporter of your position whose ultimate goal is your annihilation should perhaps give you pause as to the wisdom of your position.

Yup, occurred to me too…

That’s a good thing. Israel has been in charge of American foreign policy towards Israel for far too long. It’s time to look out for US interests in the Middle East for a change and Israel needs to be told in no uncertain terms that it can’t keep slaughtering civilians, stealing land, committing war crimes and generally stirring up trouble in the neighbourhood secure in the knowledge that America will always protect and cover for them both militarily and at the UN.

Chammy, I grew up with a lot of Jewish people. In fact, my first friend in life is Jewish. I will say unequivocally that their allegiance to Israel doesn’t usurp their allegiance to America. It’s so damn complicated. The unmitigated evil visited upon Jews during the Holocaust and throughout time has made them necessarily and rightfully paranoid, and protective of their homeland I’ve always felt a great kinship with the Jewish people because their fear/paranoia is almost identical to what black folks feel. The difference is that we really don’t have a homeland that we, as African Americans, can go to. If we did I have no doubt that we would be as protective and conflicted as American Jews.

Not so. They’ve played the Self Hating Jew card as much as the Holocaust card and both are now frayed at the edges and have proven to be completely transparent ploys used in an attempt to avoid questions and end debate .

Lets see if Chuck Shumer shows a profile in courage or once again sides with Bibi instead of the President of the United States of America. Boxer, Reid and Schumer are all cowards.

As an agnostic, I’m generally tolerant of religious viewpoints. But I’m not keen on the ones who think they personally are the conduit of Almighty Wisdom, and who think whatever they’re doing is God’s will.

A truly Supreme Being doesn’t need a bunch of ignorant and hateful yahoos to make their plans come to fruition.

Needed some context, here, TPM. Brian Schatz is one of the few JEWISH Senators on the Hill, he carried a Hebrew Bible with him as he was sworn in. Bibi has lost him.
