Discussion: Amid Escalating Tensions, Iran Shot Down A U.S. Drone

Remember, there is no Saudi agenda.

Now that I can totally go along with. No question that we’ve got people playing along.

It’s just that some of the comments that make it like people just totally believe Iran and they must be right because we know Trump’s a liar… Naw.

Slightly OT but what scares me is the story about the Pentagon putting out an assessment of using smaller nukes during open conflicts to deter further hostilities, to control and diminish warfare. They only had the paper on the Pentagon site for a week, but that scares me at least as much as this drone story.

And of course they don’t want anything in exchange for bailing Kushner out of his stupid building.

It’s more like because Bolton is a liar and has been trying to provoke a war with Iran for decades and making horseshit cases all along the way.

I’ll bet they’re not even disgruntled vets.

Probably not OT at all… Trump has bemoaned before the fact that we have all these nukes lying around but never use them.

Since we’re likely to end up bombing Iran anyway, who’s to say they won’t swap out some of the conventional things for bunker-busting tactical nukes to take out some of Iran’s buried nuclear facilities? (would be a win-win. Either you knock out the facility entirely, or worst case, you’ve irradiated the area so much that whatever isn’t destroyed is unusable).

He used that one bunker buster (our biggest bunker buster) in the mountains of Afghanistan right after taking office, You know he wants to try it out for real.
I gotta go walk the dog.

AMERICA’S hubris is surfacing again…what makes anyone think they fly into another country’s air space and not get shot at…POMPOUS and BOLTON are deliberating provoking IRAN, to get theirwar on…shock and awe…woohooo…another TV war…another really big lie…

This story was reported with accuracy at TPM. In short, the Trump regime’s side was handled with skepticism, as it should.

It’s not that one should reflexively believe Iran. Rather, it’s necessary to NEVER take the Trump regime’s word absent reliable and independent third party verification.

I, for one, think you are very smart. And should leave that in.

America has a long history of lying it’s way into wars. It’s simply amazing that simply being aware of that of that now leads to accusations of “siding with the enemy” by some of the more gullible/hawkish people here.

Going to war with no or an acting Defense secretary. What could go wrong…

I know of two countries both with names starting in A, where “to walk the dog” is a euphemism.

@castor_troy- lets not forget Trump and Rudy G, “We gonna take their oil. We get to take all da oil.” And, Sheldon Adelson’s and Bibi Netanyahu’s fondest wish that someone else Nuke Iran. Also Ronald Wilson Reagan’s har har har big joke before one of his speeches when he thought the mike was not yet live.

If it was shot down in international waters, did the US military go get it? I mean, if it was international waters the US would have every right to go retrieve it? (snark–I actually lean to the scenario that it was in Iranian airspace when it was shot down and would love to see the proof offered by Pompeo otherwise)

We learned a valuable lesson from the lies peddled by the Bush II “administration” to get us into Iraq. Better late than never.

The Strait of Hormuz is so narrow at points, that my back-of-the-napkin calculations indicate that you’d have a hard time navigating through that airspace without being over Iranian territory… or if not, then Oman’s and I’d think we’ll hear if Iran shot something down over Oman’s territory.

According to the more detailed articles, Iran claims the drone was taking pictures of the port at Chahbahar, which is over on the Eastern side near Pakistan, well away from that area.

Oh, for sure we could have been and probably were poking at the hornet’s nest. Doesn’t mean that we were wrong or in their territory, and whether or not we actually were in their territory, they had the option to not shoot, and go complain to the UN that we’re buzzing them.

There are good people on both sides who are perfectly interested in escalating this.

It’s kind of hard to blame Iran. What would the US military do if Iran flew drones off the coast of Florida, technically over international waters?
