They should all move to the UK, where there is a legal platform for their desires, it’s illegal here.
Note to Texas: “And y’all don’t come back now, y’hear?”
" … and we plan to ride it all the way to getting and winning a referendum on succession," Miller told TPM…"
Ms. Fox, I think you mean secession here.
Guess they haven’t heard about #REGREXIT …
A.k.a., be careful what you ask for…
Hey, Texas, you, too, can wake up to find out that you were just being jerked around (or that it might have been a really good idea to be informed about what exactly you are voting on and what the consequences might be…)
Could be tough, but globally the trend is to more new countries as in the breakup of the blocs like Soviet Union or country-partition as in the case of Sudan. Texas is certainly substantial enough to be a country and leave the US bloc, but could it overcome its resource curse? Texas brags about its diverse economy, but it would lose large chunks of its defense, computer and electronics businesses, leaving it with ag, shipping and energy. Also, what would be the official language?
“The result of the Brexit vote has enticed people who were previously afraid to hope in something again,” Miller said. “Now we see that a lot of folks are ready to come out of the shadows.” (Daniel Miller of the Texas National Movement)
Please, do come out of the shadows. Please.
On Friday, Miller said he was swamped with phone calls from other advocates in states outside of Texas like Florida, Louisiana, Virginia and Missouri who’d seen the Brexit news and wanted to chart a path forward for their own states.
Heck, even I’d not heard of the Virginia one – and I’m a Virginia boy. Louisiana? Secession or break apart?
Spanglish. Also, no critical thinking allowed.
We are definitely riding a wave of momentum. and we plan to ride it all the way to getting and winning a referendum on succession,"
Why should Texans want to decide whether Charles or William follows the Queen?
I was born and raised in Michigan. There has been a (more or less joking) campaign from the folks in the Upper Peninsula (above the Mackinac Bridge) to split off and become the 51st state of Superior…biggest city about 35,000 population. Good luck with that – lots of moose and bear to eat, but not much else, haha.
Slightly off-topic, but found this yesterday on one of the UK sites. Titled “Brexit: A Still Life”
And you shall know them by the ostentatious display of national symbols.
OMGosh, I’d totally forgotten about the Michigan group’s efforts. I knew about them years ago when I lived in CA, and we were getting bombarded by people wanting to split CA into three different states … and they actually had all these halfway decent plans – except for the one for the Bay Area. IIRC, they split off one of the Bay Area’s more wealthy counties to help finance one of the proposed newer, quite poor states. LOL. I literally had a heated discussion with one of the signature gatherers about it – I argued they were chopping out some of our more liberal friends and placing them with counties that had nothing in common with them – all for the sake of their money. Even though I didn’t support the whole effort to begin with, I didn’t mind rattling his cage about it because it was totally disingenuous to everyone in all those counties. If the point was to place like-minded folks by fairly close proximity–and I get that–then you must be honest in what you’re proposing. LOL. I’m going to have to research the Virginia one. Maryland has been itching to do this for awhile (Western MD). I guess they’re everywhere.
So is there somewhere that the rest of us can vote to kick Texas out of the US?
Go ahead and leave. Texas would be back in two weeks begging for food, medicine, clean water and new episodes of The Bachlorette.
“We proved a point and that point was that this issue is not one that is
just held by a bunch of fruitcakes or fringe political types,” Miller
said.
au contraire Mr. MIller. That is just exactly what you are.
May I suggest #FLUSHIT?
Hey! Wait just a cotton-pickin’ minute there, Mr. Miller – I thought we (gay people and Californians … well coastal Californians, to be exact) were the fruitcakes and fringe types!!
edited for grammar/spelling…hate auto-correct!
If Texit really becomes a thing, would anyone outside of the few sane people stuck there care?
Two things: 1) Let them go. 2) Then build that wall.
