Discussion: Alabama Student Group Invites White Nationalist To Give Speech On Diversity

Just slow the fuck up there. We’re discussing definitions here, not the question of whether or not the action we’re discussing has seriously bad effects. Just watch what you say because I am not part of the fucking problem.

I won’t dispute any of that. But after 9/11 I saw all kinds of legitimate actions and expressions labeled “terrorism” because the word was being extended to mean “stuff I don’t like.” I don’t care to emulate that type of language misuse. You can see the same thing being used against the Parkland kids. I’ve seen the same steady normalization you have. I agree that this has to be restigmatized. If there’s a gray area between racist speech, hate speech, and the dictionary definition of terrorism, it may be necessary at this point to address that. But until now it’s been the law of the land that racist speech was protected, and terrorism was not. It seems important to me remember to preserve the First Amendment in our own trying times and let me tell you @an_american if you’re waiting for me to apologize for that you better go make lunch because it’ll be a while.

Those groups include (((me))), just so we’re all clear. Those guys in Charlottesville specifically do not like (((me))). And I bought a box of ammo for a gun I hadn’t fired in many years in the first days after the election, just in case things went south fast. My feelings in this matter aren’t entirely bloodless or abstract. Here’s a fun thing I saw in my own goddamn town:

Is all the above clear enough, @an_american? Get the picture? And I’ve been working for the good guys since '08. Let me know what you’ve been up to besides virtue signaling on progressive comment threads. I’m all ears. Did you vote for Hillary, even, or are your virtue requirements for others more stringent than that? I’m not entirely sure yet that you’re not part of the problem.

No, I don’t think I will ‘slow the fuck up.’ Innocent black Americans are getting murdered by police, we have an openly racist administration with individuals hostile to minorities in general. People are LITERALLY DYING, so wake the fuck up, pull your head out, and accept we’ve got a problem with racism against minorities. Blacks in particular are terrorized by the institutionalization of racism, and the casual attitude Americans have to the loss of black dignity and life.

Oh I didn’t know that thanks.

You’ve left a couple of questions unanswered btw. I’m not going to bandy words with you but I’m not impressed.

lol, that was unhinged, to say the least. I don’t need to justify reality to you. Blacks in America are terrorized. Hate speech against blacks is terrorism. People who don’t acknowledge these fundamental aspects of black identity in America are part of the problem. Judging by how you were just triggered, I would say it’s pretty clear you are part of the problem.

Whatever dude. Have fun.

I don’t think dealing casual racism and terrorism against blacks is fun…i guess we differ in that regard too.

We differ in many ways. Bye now.

We are also similar in many ways. I’ve decided that the situation for black Americans has reached a crisis, and I’m going to call out any form of racism, casual or explicit, that I see. Perhaps some introspection on your part might help you understand how you contribute to the problem of terrorism against blacks. The reality is that being an american, we grow up being racist, and it’s next to impossible to understand that if you don’t go somewhere else where black people are treated like everyone else. Seriously, I realized this 20 years ago, how I thought of myself as a progressive and open-minded person, but how growing up in the USA had made me into a racist in ways that I didn’t even understand. If you’re really a decent person, once you’re over being butt-hurt that someone called out your casual racism, then you’ll make an effort to understand why.

Genuine LOL. Again, have fun. I might know more than you suspect about human attitudes toward otherness, but let’s just say that when I feel contrite and want to acknowledge your generous effort to instruct me toward a better way I’ll be in touch.

Oh yes, I’ll be happy to help you understand better any time. It’s a crisis that any reasonable person, whether they understand why or not, would want to fix.

But it is a student GROUP not the entire student body of the University of Alabama.
