Discussion for article #224356
Waaaaaaaahhhh!!!
Whiner.
Purge and purify. It’s the only way to righteousness.
But then you won’t have white Dem’s crossing over to vote for GOP candidates.
“I think what happened in Mississippi last night definitely sends a
strong signal to us in Alabama that until we have party registration and stop these niCLANG!) from voting, that same kind of thing could happen here in our state,”
Well, party registration would have prevented McDaniel from voting in the Democratic primary in 2003.
Without party registration how do they gerrymander? Not that it’s necessary in Mississippi.
Yeah! I mean…how many Dems voted for McDaniel?
Did anybody break into the courthouse and find out?
The irony is rich, open primaries are a republican idea, they are the party that pushes for them and passes legislation to implement them. IMHO it’s a terrible idea, for exactly this reason. It gives the party that is not your party the opportunity to vote in your primary, which really defeats the purpose of a primary…
This is the guy who, back in 2012, said that Barack Obama’s grandfather was a CIA agent who convinced Obama’s dad to marry his daughter because she’d been knocked up by a commie.
Yeah, this guy is qualified to be the head of the GOP in a Southern state all right.
I’m offering a thousand dollar reward to anyone who can convert turds to gold (.999 pure only). My thousand bucks is almost as safe as his is.

I am offering $1,000 to anybody who can prove there is a vestige of intelligence in Bible Spice.
And proving she can color inside the lines does not count.
Is it wrong that I cant stop laughing?
My recollection is that the original motivation behind run-off primary elections in the South was to disempower Black voters. I would appreciate an historical analysis of the open primary system in the South. I would not be surprised if it reflected similar motives.
Yep, remember that time Rush Limbaugh launched Operation Chaos to try to extend the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary? Something tells me this jackass had no problem with cross party voting back then.
No! The right answer is to get rid of party primaries. The state should not be in the business of supporting political parties.
Three states have it right: Top Two Primaries for all!
Also, too, as well, we should have top-two primaries for presidential races.
Josh said it well - you only break into the courthouse with all the ballots when you are losing.
Alabama has similar open primaries, where a voter could technically vote in one party’s primary and then cross over to vote in another party’s runoff election.
Wait, is that the way it works there? Really? Here in Texas, you can’t vote in the run-off unless you had already voted in that party’s primary. I can see another state allowing voters who missed the primary to vote in a run off. But allowing party-switching between the primary and the run off - that’s messed up.
They don’t need party registration for gerrymandering. They use election results. The only thing an open primary gets you is crossover voting. What’s different this time is Democrats did it to Republicans. It’s normally the other way around. It’s unethical either way. This is the first time I heard of a candidate organizing supporters of the opposing party to crossover. This has happened to Democrats too, and will keep happening unless we get rid of open primaries. If someone wants a say in picking the candidates, it’s not much to ask to at least declare yourself part of that party.
