He is barred from running for the court again because of his age. I heard speculation that he will try for governor. Considering they re-elected him to the court after his first suspension, he may have a good chance at it.
I see that mistake all the time – in documents filed by professionals, no less! – and it bugs the hell out of me.
Actually, most California Superior Court judges are appointed by the Governor and a minority are elected outright. The appointed ones then have to stand for election (and most are elected).

It was in the late 80s and I believe 2 or 3 California Supreme Court justices, including Chief Justice Rose Bird, were either not re-elected or were recalled. If I recall correctly, most of it was because they were too liberal, especially when “deep pockets” were involved. Our state has evolved since then, especially since the election of Jerry Brown for round two.

Judges appointed are on the ballot at the next general election to be retained. I believe that judges who initially run for the office are up for election too to be retained. Judges serve a 6 year term.
I worked for a judge who lost her re-election campaign after about 20 years on the bench. The courtroom phones never stopped ringing the next day. The judge had been rated as highly qualified by the LA Times. Political affiliation made no difference, everyone respected her because of her hard work and brilliant mind. Schwarzenegger appointed her to the bench within a few months and she served for another few years.

In Alabammy’ most of the populace seems not to give a damn whether Little Johnny can read…as long as he can read a defense.
The state is a prime example of how and why the Republican Party thumps the Babble’ and promotes ignorance; both moves work very, very…very well for them and produce a pliant and well trained voter who comes a-runnin’ when the GOP blows its dog whistles at election time.

We in CA are going to get another chance to overturn the death penalty. Prop 62 would replace death penalty with life imprisonment. Competing prop 66 would speed up the process to kill prisoners.
Read something about Gavin Newsom who’ll be running for governor in 2018. His maternal grandfather was in the forced Bataan death march during WWII, apparently never got over the anguish, and in 1973 when Newsom was a small child, his grandfather killed himself in front of Newsoms’ mother and sister at the dining room table. He had first threatened them with his gun, then he turned it on himself.
You’ll see Prop 63 on the ballot which requires background checks on ammo, and Newsom has supported this in response to his family’s tragedy

I believe I know the instance you are referring to. The judge had an ethnic name and the person with the non-ethnic sounding name received higher votes, despite the judge’s high ratings by the bar associations. I’ll PM you.

So strong on principles, yet lacks integrity by denying his deeds.
Two things:
First, there is no such thing as “gay marriage”. There is only marriage between to people. The SCOTUS ruling did not legalize anything… it said ‘you can not CONTINUE to discriminate based upon sex’.
Second, isn’t a judge supposed to be impartial… regardless of party affinity? Why can’t this twat waffle simply do his job? If ‘ignorance of the law is no excuse’… then defiance of the law is tantamount to purposefully breaking it… He is a felon and should be disbarred and forbidden from serving in any branch of government.
It will be interesting to see all these states that promote “charter” schools and the effect those schools have on the State U recruiting, especially football. Yes, some, a very few, do have sports programs, most do not. I see in the near future sports such as basketball and baseball falter due to lack of talent, football should be ok for a while, however, quality will suffer, imports here we come…
