Discussion: After U.S. Strikes Syria, Russian PM Says It's 'On The Verge Of A Military Clash'

“One more thing,” Medvedev’s statement concluded. “This military action is a clear indication of the US President’s extreme dependency on the opinion of the Washington establishment, the one that the new president strongly criticized in his inauguration speech. Soon after his victory, I noted that everything would depend on how soon Trump’s election promises would be broken by the existing power machine. It took only two and a half months.”

I’m surprised he didn’t use the term “Deep State”. Do the Russians get their talking points from The Intercept?

Yep, what better way to show the Chinese leader that he has big balls?

Yup
Tomahawk (missile)
Manufacturer General Dynamics (initially)
Raytheon/McDonnell Douglas
Unit cost 1.59 million(FY2014)[1] (Block IV)

Getting out my little solar calculator
60 Missles
X $ 1.59 million
= $ 95.4 Million
Not bad for a nights work
They’re all smiling at Raytheon/McDonnell Douglas
100 Million
That would buy a lot of Meals on wheels
Ya know
If that program did any good

Pottery Barn rules, Medvedev.

Why don’t you summon Dump to Moscow - and keep him.

How could Russia have meddled in the election if they are mad at Trump?

Too bad we let all those diplomats at State slip away. A strategy would also be nice.

I don’t believe any of this. In fact, Medvedev using such strong terms – “completely ruined” – sets off some very loud bullshit alarms for me.

I’m increasingly of the belief that this response was about everything except sending a real message to Assad. Bombing Syria killed several birds for Trump – It made him look tough and compassionate, it caused a distracting controversy, and perhaps most important, it made it look like he wasn’t in cahoots with Russia, hence the theater we’re seeing from them today.

Between Medvedev and Putin you never know which one is going to play good cop, bad cop between the two.

Medvedev is Trump’s bad cop, while Putin remains good cop.
With Obama, Putin was the bad cop, and Medvedev remained the good cop.

But make no mistake…both Putin and Medvedev are on the same page, ripping off the Russian people left and right, while staging ever more elaborate efforts at disinformation campaigns and stoking mayhem around the world.

And Assad gets to continue using chlorine gas. Win-Win.

Even leaving aside any possibility of this being an acted, Trump screwing a business associate after getting what he wants would be the definition of in-character.

Couldn’t he just make Xi order the meatloaf?

I pretty much thought this was coming despite the Russians having been warned ahead of time.

Rump is only a useful idiot to serve two things for Putin: get rid of those damn sanctions and sow chaos and discord all over the world but especially Western Europe.

So far, the sanctions are still in place and Western Europe appears to be hanging together a bit more than some people thought they would.

When it becomes clear that Putin is tired of waiting for his investment to bear dividends we’ll know it.

If the relationship is truly ruined, then there is nothing to keep Russia from fucking over Trump and releasing all of the connections to the election. I call “bullshit”.

The point of installing Trump was not to have a friendly partner, but to put a complete idiot in charge so the world turns away from allying with the US. Divide and conquer.
