Discussion: After Tucker Carlson Bashes Immigrants, Pacific Life Temporarily Pulls Ads

Any company that advertises on FauxNews at all should rethink their policy.

As usual, the idiots at FOX prove they don’t understand the concept of free speech. It is clear that Pac Life has the right to NOT pay for the privilege of being associated with Carlson’s brain-droppings. And the Murdochs let Carlson talk on FOX only if it makes money. No govt is stopping Carlson from saying what he wants anywhere else.

“Woke” capitalism is just so-o-o precious (not to mention so Last Year), but corporations are not stupid. (Vile, greedy, and moral-less, but not stupid.) If they see Carlson, and all of Faux Knews as a bottom-line-liability, they will run for the hills (Beverly Hills, that is. Swimmin’ pools. Movie stars.)

But I think Foxy may already be understating the Trumpublic is less a sail than an oversized hole in the hull. Before their prime-time advertisers are all gold bugs and ED commercials, they will discover a new scam.

It will be in conjunction with the very interesting star Capella on Saturday. The Mayans would have been freaked out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capella#Observational_history

The problem I see i n the headline is the word “temporarily.” Pacific Life may have pulled their ads for a while, but they will be right back to support the racist garbage spewing from Tucker’s mouth in a few days. I already wasn’t using Pacific Life’s products or services, but fuck them forever.

Lately, they’ve been using mostly Grey whales (their logo is a Grey). In the past they have used some Orca.

This isn’t a first-amendment issue, Walter.

Thanks for the correction. I was operating from memory and my memory (not to mention my vision) is not what it used to be.

I don’t know what little Tucker is talking about. Migration rates are at a 43 year low and the number of undocumented have fallen from 12 million in 2007 to around 10 million today.
I reside a few subway stops from where Tucker opines in a heavily immigrant neighborhood. It’s pretty clean and tidy, there are interesting cusines and crime is real low. There are a lot fewer criminally minded freaks and better behaved individuals than you would see in his Fox offices like loofa and falafel wielders, obese gropers and the paramour of the presidents son with male appendage photos on her phone.

More precisely, the First Amendment prohibition is against the government making any laws which abridge the freedom of speech, and corporations are (in most cases) not part of the government. So Fox News and Pacific Life can make whatever rules they want about what they or their employees say in public.

Citizens United held that use of money can qualify as speech. Fox thinks that what Carlson said is just fine. Equally, Pacific Life is “speaking” by removing its money from Carlson’s program.

Folks like Carlson seem to forget that the First Amendment does not guarantee the right of free speech without consequences.

“Our leaders demand that you shut up and accept this,” Carlson said on his show Friday, referring to American political leadership. “We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer and dirtier and more divided. Immigration is a form of atonement.”

  1. At some point, he’s going to compare himself to Ben Franklin.

  2. Does he know how the Georgia colony got started?

I’ve looked the last two nights but the 1st quarter moon is already close enough to make viewing difficult and is moving west as fast as or faster than the comet, while waxing brighter.

Don’t forget the ads for “Trumpy Bear.”

I’d love to know how many sponsors want their commercials to run during Shep Smith’s hour?

"Good evening, Friends, Tucker Franklin here, to tell you about my new, exciting invention, the Super-Duper Benjamin Rod, guaranteed to protect your home against Liberal Democrat strikes.

We’re standing here, in the middle of this thunderstorm to demonstrate how zippy-quick and efficient this little baby is. Let me just inch it up a bit to get closer to the ionized subversives in the Cloud…"

Capella must have driven astronomers crazy until all the multiple stars were teased out. As for the Mayans – it’s nothing a few dozen disembowelings wouldn’t fix.

OOoo thanks for that. If it stays clear tonight I’ll be outside looking for it. They say it can be seen by the naked eye, even within some city limits but I only caught the end of the report on the news. I still remember seeing Haley Bopp outside my bedroom window for months when my son was 10 years old. That was really amazing.

Perhaps they need to be educated in the rights of businesses to defend their brand. Seems so obvious, but it apparently doesn’t translate well in Trumpspeak.
