Discussion: After Mueller Comments, Nadler Declares It's Time For Congress To Take Over

Tell your boss, Jerry.

She is the one that still hasn’t scheduled a vote on the Billy Barr Contempt Motion your committee issued 3 weeks ago.

The time for talk is over.

Impeachment time, Nancy…

It should be noted that Slow-Walking Jerry did not mention impeachment in his statement.

It was more weak-tea.

As you know, I’ve been very much on the fence if not leaning toward not impeaching. I’m off the fence. It’s time to impeach.

I don’t believe he said that at all. What Mueller did say, I think, is that it would be unconstitutional for him to charge the President because of the Justice Department’s policy. That, however, is patently untrue. The policy is not a matter of law, much less a constitutional policy. The point he seemed to be making is that, given the policy, it would be unconstitutional to charge the president in his report because the president would not have the ability to defend himself in a court of law. In my view, that would be irrelevant, because there would be no need to defend himself in a court of law if uncharged in a court of law, and, as we have seen ad nauseum, the president has more than ample opportunity to defend himself in the court of public opinion.

Holy cow! Rep. Nadler used the “L” word! (but will the “librul media” even report it?)

I wonder about the timing, however – given that congress is on a break and all.

When even a Freedom Caucuser is joining the momentum. …

Mueller’s said that the OLC found that charging Trump would be unconstitutional.

"[The OLC opinion] says that the Constitution requires a process other than the criminal justice system to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing.”

in other word, the “criminal justice system” is not an option – something “other than” the criminal justice system is “required”

Nancy is going to fck this up. POLITICALLY, there wont be a more opportune moment. Constitutionally, it shouldn’t make a damn bit of difference. Clearly, in law, the investigative power of Congress is GREATEST when impeachment hesrings are underway. Even the Trumpsters in SCOTUS (5-4) will back the House enforcing subpoenas and testimony- over Exec privilege

  • under those circumstances. In the likely event that * refuses to comply, inherent contempt would be seen as reasonable. * is playing for all the marbles. Nancy is imagining the old world rules. She has already allowed * a measure of legitimacy; for her to allow this to proceedto 2020,as if its just another election , effectively emasculates the impeachment clause and indicts HER as complicit. Do your damn CONSTITUTIONAL duty, woman!

exactly. and this is probably the last chance that Pelosi will have to make impeachment be about the Russia probe (and not about her feud with Trump, and/or a partisan power struggle)

my money is on Pelosi continuing to fail.

Shit, the Republicans had Impeachment Charges ALREADY DRAWN UP FOR HILLARY before the election even happened.
She would not have lasted 3 months with a fully Republican Congress/Senate, but would NOT have been convicted.
Only about 5 cowardly Democratic Senators would have been craven enough to vote for conviction on; “but her EMAILS!” and that would not have been enough.
BUT, it would have destroyed her administration and that was the idea.

He is. That’s why he’s fighting the subpoenas tooth and nail.

Mueller has handed the dems another inflection point. They weren’t prepared for it, as they weren’t prepared for the report itself, but they need to use what has been handed to them.

Edit: I’m going to check headlines now. If the headline is “Mueller Wraps Up,” then we’re losing. If the headline is “Mueller Hands Off to Congress,” we are getting somewhere.

OK, we’re waiting. Announcement by Friday, please. It’s time to go for it.

We have to trust that , with hearings exposing the horrific, seditious corruption in this junta, the scales will fall from the eyes of enough of our GOP brethren that they will become patriotic. It is a huge risk. Failing that, we become the most dangerous banana republic in history. To date, there have been minimal to zero consequences for the *. Pelosi imagines a fair 2020, free from Russian, and Trump’s treachery. Its a fatal delusion.

The hypocrisy is sooooo maddening.

I guess saying “no” to Jerry Nadler is your idea of “fighting tooth and nail” – since Nadler hasn’t even bothered to file a court case asking for subpoena enforcement.
