Discussion: Advocacy Groups To Doug Jones: Hire People Of Color As Your Senior Staff

I thought you were suggesting that activists are asking for Jones to apply it (“That’s all anyone is asking, and it seems perfectly reasonable.”)

unless you just don’t think it’s possible to find a qualified black person

Doug Jones knows better than that.

Me, too.

Some might say that, as a matter of strategy, these activists ought not have made their demand explicit, but I’m not sure about that.

They shouldn’t have—because now they’ll be disappointed and vocal bout it.
You know how lefties always manage to piss in their own cornflakes.

You’ve quoted me out of context there.

I think black people are sick and tired of being used for our votes and then not getting a seat at the table. That’s a big, big issues within the black community, and it’s something the left really needs to pay attention to. Thankfully, we have a DNC Chair who seems well aware of this issue.

No, I didn’t.
I was building on what you said, and quoted the relevant part of your comment.

No problem. Anyone can easily look back to recover the context.

Ain’t that the truth.

John Lewis supported Keith Ellison for the post, but Tom is a good guy regardless.

John Lewis, wonderful as he is, clearly isn’t perfect.

Them’s fightin’ words.

As others haven noted no one is asking D-Jo to hire unqualified candidates.

What they’re asking is that he step out of his Old White Guy comfort zone and interview people he might not otherwise interview.

Caveat: This assumes he is in an Old White Guy comfort zone. Maybe he was already planning to interview PoC. But advocacy groups publicly asking doesn’t hurt.

This is a dig at Jones, sort of a predisposition, that he would do otherwise intentionally or out of his whiteness. I sort of consider that to be rude.

I watched him, heard him and I believe him. I think he knows exactly where he is, what is right and how he became what he now is.
To start in with the doubting Thomas BS is unfair to the person that you just voted for.

Jones is the real deal and I’m hanging my hat on that one!

Also, never knew the Rooney rule but now that I do I see it working in practice and also can see the potential of it in full effect.

Omarosa is available!
