Discussion: Actually, Marco Rubio, Philosophers Make More On Average Than Welders

By that logic, maybe if we just don’t “think” of Rubio he’ll stop “being?” (Not meant as a suggestion to off the dude).

This is Rubio economics. Get rid of jobs to create jobs, zoing!

Wonder if his politics work that way. Get rid of Rubio, gain jobs. No way-it actually works. Color me surprised and slap my bottom.

Don’t just look at teachers.

Top performing majors on the MCAT:

  1. Philosophy
  2. Economics
  3. Chemistry
  4. Physics
    . . . . .
  5. Biology

In other words, learning to thing carefully and precisely about messy, ill defined problems beats path learning on the road to medical school.

I wonder if Rubio was including the stand up philosophers that coalesce the vapors of human experience into a viable and meaningful comprehension.

So he wants to make “higher education faster and easier to access, especially vocational training.”
Vocational training is not higher education. It is fast and easy to access already, but either at rip off for-profits, or at community colleges. You know, those underfunded because of Republicans places that Obama wants to improve and make free.

Marco as an undergraduate attended now defunct Tarkio College, then Santa Fe College, a two-year school, and finally earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida.

How many political science majors do we need, Rubio?

Why didn’t you become a welder? You might be better off financially today.

Do you think Americans should have their career choices determined by the government like they do in North Korea? Do you not think Americans deserve freedom of choice regarding their own lives and careers?

Marco is still apparently following marching orders from the Koch Blowers who must have told him they will need a lot of welders for the temporary gigs building the Keystone XL pipeline. Guess he didn’t get the memo about Obama’s squashing the project. He needs to update his talking points.

I’ve been told a few times over the years that I would have done well in political/social philosophy. I’ve just been side-tracked too often by Mother Nature and her endless war with my bones. She’s a real bitch sometimes. Who knows, maybe if things ever settle down, I’ll be able to go to college. Pretty late in life, though (50yo this year).

You need to add in the unemployed welders too, if you are going to play like that.

Thank you. I was about to correct the usage, but it’s mostly a lost cause. Still, if you are going to attack intellectuals or academics, you should probably use correct English.

But how many work as computer programmers, or in other highly-paid fields?

It’s a three-fer. The companies complain about the taxes that support the community colleges, about the shortage of qualified workers, and about how much they have to pay for the qualified workers.

From Fiorina wiki page:

“She received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and medieval history at Stanford University,”

“For the life of me I don’t know why we have stigmatized vocational education,” Rubio said. “Welders make more money than philosophers. We need more welders and less philosophers.”

I don’t see Marco welding.

Rubio also bemoaned the fact that so many jobs are being replaced by machines. I’ll stick my neck out here and declare that many more welders have been replaced by machines than philosophers. So, the philosophers are irreplaceable.

I don’t know why I’m trying to make sense of his ridiculous epithet. As many commenters here have pointed out, it fails even the shallowest scrutiny.

Let’s hear it for the philosophers.

Except that a great many pastors, priests, rabbi’s and other clerics get substantial housing and subsistance allowances and/or accommodation and expense allowances.

And priests don’t have to bear the expense of hiring rent boys.

Looks like Flatfoot ™ is philosophizing again.

I’m sure he meant amateur philosophers such as himself.

Rubio just tried to show that education in America needs fixing?
