Discussion for article #240754

I am so tired of this asshole. What do you say TPM that for just one day, you not cover this idiot? Talk about overkill

Weasels have better hair, but otherwise I can see the similarity.

You get that, at this point in time, he is, far and away, leading the race for the nomination to the presidency of the United States, right? If you don’t want to read about him, you’re going to have to ask someone to email you when he flames out and take a total news source hiatus until then.

Stephanopoulos has a lot to answer for, but he did well here. Make the cowardly demagogue squirm. Make him own the scurrilous crap he puts out there, and don’t let him make weak excuses not to answer yes or no.

“You brought it up. I didn’t.”

Yes, it’s called an interview. It’s where they ask you questions and you answer. Surely you’re familiar with the concept.

“George, you have raised the question,” Trump replied. “I haven’t raised the question.”

Two things, Donald. First, you are clearly lying, because you have raised the question. Second, you do know that when you talk to reporters, they occasionally might ask questions, right?

By the way these assholes in the crowd and these assholes on stage are talking, you’d think Obama was running for a third term.

The Pubbie followers are too dumb to realize that there is a point where it is clear to everyone else that there are no facts and proof to back up the claims. Going on four years of bull but no proof that Hillary played games with Benghazi and about SEVEN YEARS of bull but no proof Obama was not born in the United States. What is Trump going to do, wait until Obama is out of office to reveal his “proof”?

Exactly. These Pubbie idiots don’t understand that you cannot change the past but voters want to hear your plans for the future.

“Well, you know, I don’t get into it, George.”

Sounds to me like the tough guy is running scared.

So far he has gotten by just shouting soundbites.

“I will build a wall and the Mexicans will pay for it.” Still not a hint of how he will do it or how he will get them to pay for it.

“Its unbelievable what my investigators are finding about Obama.” 4 years and still waiting for the answer on that.

Now, he doesn’t have the guts to stand up to a racist follower, and he refuses to answer a basic question like "do you think the president is a Muslim?

I think he may be hitting his ceiling. I hope not. There are still remnants of the GOP he has yet to destroy.

If you think answering a question with “you have raised that question not me” nifty just what question do you have to answer? No matter what the topic…when do you have to answer?

Trump looked like a jerk in that exchange and a coward too. If his handlers were worth a shit they should have known that one was coming and he should’ve had a prefabbed neutral answer. “well George there are folks that say he isn’t an American, like the man the other night and folks that say he is. I’ve never taken it up with the President but he says he’s an American and a Christian. I say the same thing about myself and I’d like to be taken on my word. The man the other night is entitled to his opinion and I am not his mommy or in a position to tell him how to think”

That statement or one like it should be “off the cuff” stuff for anyone running a no substance BS campaign like Trump’s. He seems to have created a political genre he’s not suited to.

“It’s not appropriate for me to talk about somebody else’s faith.” Then he’s saying religion is irrelevant in a presidential campaign. Pass it on.

Or lack of religion.

Viz. Bernie Sanders. And more power to him!

  1. He is the anti-Bible thumper.[1]

Sanders is the presidential contender most willing to dissociate himself from religion. Though he identifies as Jewish and by Jewish law is Jewish, he has freely acknowledged that he is not a religious person. He scored a solid zero from Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in its most recent scorecard and a 100 from the abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America.

[1] And should he win the nomination, he’ll be figuratively beaten over the head with this by the GOP. The question is, will it make a difference to anyone but the religious right?

One thing that jumps out at me, Matt, is the idea of “the set of skills” one has.

Granted that Trump has the skills to browbeat, play to the audience and all of the other things which have attracted knuckledraggers to his camp…

However, Trump is far from having developed the answer-dodging skills that Republican politicians have mastered. Nearly all of them. Maybe when one’s goal is to induce people to vote against their own interests and one’s LIVELIHOOD is dependent on this skill, one develops the skill.

I remember, coming back from a short vacation with my wife in 2011 and she and I deciding to catch Lawrence O’Donnell’s show before we turned in. In one of the segments, Marsha Blackburn was a guest. I had to sit up and marvel at the ability of Blackburn to tie up Lawrence for about ten minutes. She said nothing…but she combined run-on sentences, misdirection, non-answers, verbal roadblocks so skillfully that she succeeded in battling him to a standstill and, most importantly, blocking ANY useful information being discussed whatsoever.

It was this skill that Blackburn used to “debate” Bill Nye, the Science Guy, on Climate Change, even though she herself knows as much about this topic as a coffee table.

And so we see here an exchange in which Trump is, in fact, an amateur. It will not budge the knuckledraggers (it may enhance his standing with them)…but, in the General, Trump would falter greatly with a real journalist sitting in front of him.

Got that, Chunk Toad?

I hear that NBC is looking to have Trump host The Biggest Loser when he disintegrates in this campaign.

“But I don’t talk about other people’s faith. It’s not appropriate for me to talk about somebody else’s faith.”

Is there no bottom to this man’s deceit?

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

I don’t think arguments for or against God are ever going anywhere. They come from two different moral planes and are doomed to fail. But, as Gandhi is claimed to have said, it’s Christian’s perversion of Christianity that’s the issue.
