ABC owns this. Would they have hired a Holocaust denier or a 9/11 truther? All for the want of the “economic anxious” You figure there are enough creative people there to write new shows instead of a reboot of a 20 year old situation comedy.
They did ask for it. Because Roseanne wasn’t playin - she is the bigot she was on TV - that wasn’t a role.
They asked for it and I’m so disappointed in John Goodman.
Snowflakes! Where’s her freedumb of speech? It may not play well with coastal elites, but that’s the kind of joke that real Americans in the heartland enjoy. It was just a politically incorrect expression of economic anxiety on Barr’s part. We need to sympathize with her not cancel her show. (Have I missed anything?)
Sad. It was a good show. To be cancelled because of an un-politically correct Tweet is a sad commentary of today’s scared shitless media. Christ, look at the stuff the Asshole-elect says.
Gee, my first #MeToo moment!
“Great minds…”
A) she’s a celebrity
B) until she showed her ass, those first episode ratings were good enough for them to go all in.
Fox is already dragging out their imaginary first amendment, which says they can say whatever pops into their heads, and everyone has to just leave them alone, dammit! It goes nicely with their imaginary second amendment, which says they can shoot anyone if they think it just might be safer for them.
So she says her joke was in poor taste. She’s never been known for good taste, so I don’t see what the problem is – you hire Roseanne you get Roseanne.
And, by the way, even if something uttered or written really IS a joke, that doesn’t mean it can’t be racist. Our country has a long history of vile racist “jokes”. It just means that, thankfully, fewer and fewer people think they’re funny and refuse to accept a society in which they can be used without public admonishment.
I won’t be surprised if one of the networks give her another show. If she can make money they won’t put her out to pasture.
On some level, you’re right – but only if they had been keeping tabs on her all these years, etc., and were well aware of her going off the deep end (whenever that really happened). If they were well aware of how she’s ended up, then they went in with open eyes. Truthfully, I hadn’t kept up with any of them. Still, I think she’s done them rotten by her own selfish, narcissistic need to prove she’s a hater.
Either way, kudos to ABC for quick, decisive action.
edited for spelling.
I haven’t watched the show, to be fair, and only was vaguely aware of the old one, maybe saw four or five episodes. But I can imagine that people who worked with her then might think that her current politics and racist leanings were either not her “real self” that they had known back in the day, or that her beliefs and attitudes were malleable enough that by being around more reasonable minds she would eventually come around, and hopefully bring a chunk of her Trump-supporting fans with her. That’s my “best intentions” excuse, lol.
This could have dragged on for another year or more, but luckily for the network and sponsors and cast and crew, she got them all off the hook with her deplorable remarks. No walking up to the edge with that one, no handwringing on their parts. She’s fired and no second-guessing whether she deserves it.
Well, you know, there’s “un-politically correct,” and then there’s viciously racist. ABC stood up, they did not run scared.
Barr just cost a whole lot of people their jobs. I hope she is happy with her tweet.
It was a disgusting photo shoot. That said, you have to also hold the magazine Hebe just as much in contempt for asking her to do it. Hebe was supposed to be a hip Jewish magazine run by young hip Jews. They are just as much to blame for that ugly image. It was not funny then and is not funny now. That sort of humor does not belong in print anywhere.
If that’s not tomorrow’s NY Post headline I’ll be sadly disappointed.
One more “Shoot-from-the lip” racest lame-brained Frankenputz supporter down, only a few more hundred million to go. Let these idiots “tweet” long enough, and they hang themselves. One less 90’s grade has-been on Corporate television. Keep this up! Soon, the Networks will be out of “re-treads” and will be forced to think of original ideas, and funny ones at that. I don’t know which I look forward to seeing implode more, my rarely used (except for PBS) “Television box” or the heads of these network nincompoops when they’re actually forced to think original thoughts for the first time since most of them finished “High School.”
She can always get a new gig like one of her old ones. Performing the National Anthem at sporting events just to stick it to those kneelers.
I guess they were triggered.
Don’t worry, she’ll be fine.
i doubt she cares. She certainly wouldn’t care about the working class crew members who are now out of jobs. She might care about her fellow cast members but, even then it would probably only come down to anyone popular enough to get attention when criticizing her (or having a platform to criticize)
