The EPA and Bureau of Land Management are easy targets when you are out of power. Now that the GOP reps actually have the power to nix clean water and tourism spaces for their constituents, it’s suddenly harder to pull the trigger.

Bullies are gutless punks, period.

I think everybody realizes that Trump is exactly the sort of person who will break the China, goaded On by The Steve bannon’s of the world.

Reagan was regarded as genuinely a radical at the time, but don’t forget that he needed to balance budgets in California, in other words he indeed had experience with this stuff - no matter how radical right his inclinations may have tugged at his heartstrings. Congress will not give unstable, untrustworthy Trump any Rope 2 hang us all and their own 2018 chancesl

Govt shutdowns never go well. The last ones (under the last two Democratic Presidents) were led by GOP in Congress. While some hits were taken, the GOP could always claim to their base that they were standing up to an stubborn Dem President.

This would be GOP (trump) vs. GOP (congress). In Congress, members would have to choose publicly one side or the other. Either the rift becomes nakedly shown (all current pretenses of unity swept away), or Republicans right out of the gate OWN the title of Big Spenders.

Given this is how they almost came to be known by the end of the BushW era, but they successfully pointed all of the blame on W, this is how they will be painted heretoforward as it happens clearly and inevitably when the President is GOP - especially if/when the Congress is GOP. To do so at such an early point in this administration would be to give the final branding of GOP to Trump (and by extension to Russia?) TOP? Trampled(byTrump) Old Party.

Quite true, and the challenge before us is to cause people that would vote for this rectum to vote in a responsible way!

Nice summary, Alice, easy to read.

Are you all as sick of this game as I am? I want a government that works for all of the American people, not just the rich or the followers of Ayn Rand or the Club for Growth. I want to hear a positive and clear alternative vision that focuses on us.

Umm, could it be in trouble because it makes no sense? Oh, wait, these are Republicans we’re talking about…

That would be nice. But absurd because the REALITY of what we’re facing is what is here. There is no point in talking about positive things if none of those things are going to come to pass any time soon. We need to focus on keeping evil at bay as best as we can then focus on restorative ideas.

It would be nice if some of this were true, but the Democrats are scared of their own shadows, and are unable to demonize Republicans in the way that Republicans demonize them.

GWB was a horrible President and the consequences of his administration should have been enough to tar the Republicans for a generation, but now he is on tour and without shame.

Until we get a critical mass of Democrats willing to bully right back at the Republicans, we are going to go no where. Even now, the Democrats are making this out to be about Trump when it is really about ALL Republicans.

Form here on out “Republican” should always be added in front of “President Trump,” and “Congress.” The Republican brand needs to be destroyed.

While a well-presented article such as this makes explicit sense to logical people, it will never make sense to the Drumpf voters, and apparently the vast majority of GOP politicians, who are too lily-livered to admit that they really screwed the pooch by backing Hair Furor.

The trouble begins with 3-1 ≠ 4, and snowballs from there. Reality begins to sink in when Republican “town hall” meetings stop looking like the rallies or fundraisers they were expecting.

Very true.
