Discussion: 5 Points On What We Still Don't Know In The Denny Hastert Sex Abuse Scandal

Hastert was Speaker of the House, a very powerful position so not just some schmuck that will be exposed with ease. This is a web of deceit that could draw in all sorts of others, also major players, and expose and implicate our nation’s other leading political party in some very dirty deals, violations and illegality. The ramifications are huge, so don’t expect a quick ending.

Nixon denied and Christie denied at first and said that it was time for the investigation to end because it was a distraction or whatever. Then Blam, Watergate, Bridgegate. Now its Hastertgate and the cover up that ensued that is completely a part of the original crimes.
Denny Hastert’s name is at the top, but this is going to expose a whole lot of his comrades again and for the first time and do some real damage to them and their Party, albeit many, many, years too late. Hastert has spilled the beans.

The Foley case is back front and center, Gingrich was dirty and likely is much dirtier and who else and what else? Its a major cover up, possibly of Watergate proportions? This is Karma setting things straight for the truly indecent Republicans that like to pass the blame off on others. Karma works in strange ways.

There will be more victims and more details that will only make it worse for Hastert and the Republican Party so do they end it all here or continue with the cover up? Both losing propositions but knowing what we know about politicians and especially this group of pols, they will never do the right thing and that is why they are in this pickle in the first place.

My theory is similar, and that perhaps Denny has a more emotional connection to these victims. Why did he go to the funeral, so many years later? He was in Congress then (though he did spend quite a bit of time in the district.)

If he met a few times with “A” maybe that person had troubles he shared with Denny and, out of guilt or an emotional connection, Denny wanted to try and help or make it right. No excuse, and $3,5 million is quite an amount, but I’m thinking there is some deeper connection that he hasn’t shaken. If it was pure extortion from “A”, I doubt he would have met with him face to face more than once, if at all.

I don’t know about that Porsche rumor. That would be really unusual for Yorkville, back then, or now. Surely not a new one. Maybe when he was young he liked little sports cars and was seen in them. I seriously doubt they had a local Porsche dealership back in those days (and certainly not now.) When he was in office, he drove “boats” like a Lincoln or Olds.

I know this sounds unbelievable, but as I have gotten older I have come to regret some things that I have done in my life, and it sounds to me like Hastert has a guilty conscience and wanted to assuage his very real fear of going to hell. If we had a media that did its job back in 1996, instead of obsessing over the Clintons at every waking moment, maybe we all could have been spared this travesty of a Speaker. Probably not though, since anyone they could have come up with would have been a Republican, which prima facie is a travesty.

It could be that memories have embellished the point, but it was based on the memory of someone who does not claim to have been abused. I agree that it is odd, that’s why it stuck with me as a detail.

You “should” be shown it but you wouldn’t.

So, tell me, did his big real estate assets take any kind of hit from the housing market crash the year after he left Congress? I’d like to know.

Personally, I think that if you have been interfered with by a teacher when you are a student you have free reign to extort whatever you can from them. Blackmail is a choice the blackmailed makes. You have to choose to be blackmailed.

David Letterman chose not to be blackmailed. Denny Hastert chose to be.

It’s unclear how Hastert views himself as a victim – of extortion? of media scrutiny? of public opinion?

Republicans are always the victims. Reality is always persecuting them with its facts and such.

the big parkway deal was a quick turn around years ago during the boom. Losses went to his buyer because parkway fell through. I bet most deals were during the boom. He moved from Yorkville to Plano after he left Congress.

Yes and the project fell through after he sold the land
