I consider this an excellent development and sign.

I’d rather he’d been a successful artist and a failed politician.

Sadly, I’m guessing the main reason for them not selling was concern over them being fakes, rather than some type of abhorence of the artist.

Still way too many wannabe Nazi’s running around.

I’m saying fakes. Mel Brooks was right - he was a house painter.

You would think someone would buy them to hang next to their collection of John Wayne Gacy pastels and Richard Speck acrylics.

Franz Liebkind: “Hitler…there was a painter! He could paint an entire apartment in ONE afternoon! TWO coats!”

@tena + @maximus == my exact train of thinking.

I want it to be the case that these paintings went unsold because everyone agrees that Hitler’s genocide irretrievably damns everything he touched. That’s how a truly civilized society would react: something like damnatio memoriae.

But it’s almost certainly the truth that their dubious authenticity was the real objection. I bet David Duke has a bunch of money burning a hole in his pocket that he scammed from impoverished racists.

Yeah…nothing worse than buying the paintings of a genocidal monster, then finding out they’re fake. That sorta thing could really ruin your day…sheesh.

I can just imagine some sleazy Republican like Stephen Miller trying to pick up a woman in a bar by saying, “Hey, would you like to come up to my apartment and see my Hitlers?”

Tens of thousands of dollars for those sorry-ass paintings? Hell, you can get a Jerry Garcia tie for 30 bucks.

Of course. Notoriety makes the price. The kind of notoriety is not considered.

The real story is that the Trump era has made this story an item to begin with.

I wish I had enough money to buy them and then publicly burn them on international TV.

I think a starting asking price between $20-50k might be issue more than the provenance.

Me too. That would be just about perfect.

“Unsatisfactory”

That one word on an application changed the world.

Holy shit yes. If they are ever authenticated, I’d love to see the German government or an American Holocaust group buy and immediately destroy them. Or even the ADL. I’d donate.
