I rarely read the Chron for news/politics (usually local sports only)-- much less the comments.
It’s infested with the local RWNJs.
A place where they can simply stay in character and echo each other’s certainties.

Apparently people caring for Duncan while he was in isolation didn’t wear hazmat gear for 2 DAYS!!! Until tests came back positve for ebola. Stupid stupid stupid.
Complacency and ignorance are root cause of current situation. Hopefully U.S. healthcare system and govt are working to change the situation. The President’s focus will help move the process along and bring resources to bear. Did you know that Nurse Pham received a trnasusion from an Ebola survivor and is doing OK becasue of it?
Questions for you all, once someone has survived an infection, do they gain immunity? Also, can an effective vaccine be developed similar to the small pox virus vaccine?
Yes, they do gain some immunity from the virus. To what extent is not known. But like all viruses small amounts help to create interlocking receptors where antibodies can attack effectively and learn to replicate in one’s system, thereby helping to build up immunities. It’s basically how they make some vaccines we already have scheduled for children and adults. It’s what they call a “live” vaccine. And yes, they can make a vaccine for ebola, and were already working on it when the CDC and the NIH budgets were cut due to sequester and other Republican efforts to cut the budget over the years, setting back the program by several years. Making the right combination and appropriate viral load for an effective vaccine takes time. I heard it about it on NPR. Sorry though, I don’t have a link.
Not good. Not good at all.
