Discussion: 1 Dead, 20 Injured In Shooting At New Jersey Arts Festival

“Guns aren’t the problem. We need to do more about mental health care,” says the same Grand Old Politburo that’s suing to take everyone’s health insurance away.

And gangs! Yeah, that’s it, they were in gangs! Hispanic gangs! Whatever it was, guns had nothing to do with it!

Unless they shooters were people of color or Muslim, I don’t think Trump will even bother to comment.

Sad to see—art festivals are one of the things communities do to help revitalize themselves, and this was the 12th year of this thing. The all-night aspect with music and so forth seemed like an effort to reach beyond the usual crowd that attends art festivals. But I don’t think they’ll be doing it again, after this, unless there’s a resourceful way to insure it. We lose more than lives from this craziness.

Time for Trump to break out the MS-13/Nancy Pelosi scare tweets.

One of our best friends volunteers there and told us she wasn’t sure if she was doing the midnight shift
or waiting to do Sunday morning. I just emailed her to check on her and her husband. What the fuck is happening to us?

What this country needs is to build Gun Freedom parks where anyone who goes in can shoot anyone else who is there. No limitation on weapons, ammo, magazines, or any of that other pissy librul crap. Survivors get to loot the corpses and video royalties. Losers die with their boots on.

Too correct. The intangibles we lose are incalculable, and they cannot be assigned dollar values. God, there are days when I hate this country.

I hear you. But at the state and local level there are some really cool revitalization things going on, communities really coming back from postindustrial slumps and so forth. And this is actually an example of that broader, very positive trend. So—there’s that? I think I’m going to adopt the idea “Not Everything Is Awful” as a motto to keep me going in these dark days.

Yeah, I actually like going to local arts festivals when we travel. It’s a great way to participate in a community event and it’s wonderful to see people of all ages attending these things. Naturally, I end up buying jewelry, artwork, stuff for the grandkids, etc., but that’s part of the fun. If I’m staying at the place a few days, I want to help the local economy - eat at local mom and pop restaurants, shop with local merchants rather than big box stores, etc.

It brings visibility to things that ordinarily might not get attention outside of their own little milieus. You hear a band you like, or discover an artist or potter or somebody whose work stands out, you find out about a local nonprofit that aligns with some interest, an orchard or winery, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, it just gives you a different way to learn about the community.

Dog save America,
Land I once loved.
Heel beside her and guide her,
With unconditional love.
From the schoolyards
To the churches,
To the streets red with blood.
Dog save America,
My home alas.

I like to go to a local bookstore and buy a book written by a local writer.

Now seeing reports the authorities say it was a “neighborhood beef” that motivated this. The kind of thing we just nod, because it’s familiar, like kids finding guns, or road rage incidents, or motorcycle enthusiasts remonstrating with one another in the parking lot, or a rowdy wedding turning into a deadly brawl, or literal neighbors arguing over literally any stupid thing, just on and on, the nothing little things of life made deadly by you-know-whats.

Page 6 below the fold move on nothing important or newsworthy here . The only people who care are the people whose loved ones were grievously injured because they chose to go to an arts festival. Wayne Lapierre and Dana Loesch pocket another check and life goes on here in Freedomland.

How did freedom become guns good, healthcare bad?

My husband and I ended up going to a Diversity Fair in a high school gym in a touristy town we were visiting. There were ethnic foods, every kind of music, dancing grandmas and pamphlets. Lots of pamphlets. We had fun.

Didn’t we have the movie Running Man for what you are describing?

Cool movie. I didn’t realize until years later it was based on a Stephen King novel.
