When my wife got her J-Tube years ago, we didn’t realize that you shouldn’t grind up coated delay-release pills that we still had in-stock at home. Cue her falling asleep in the middle of taking her night meds after grinding up the delayed release Ambien with the rest of her transplant stuff…it hit hard.
In my wife’s final ICU trip, I had to show the nurse how to work with CF enzymes in that scenario, because she’d never done it before, and you can jam the tube up easily. It was the first and only time I felt useful that whole visit.

They replied: “Reports to us from Kabul, including those from the military, made it clear that not only were contract working dogs denied access to cargo storage in the last flights out, but that the govt. also denied charter planes access to remove the dogs to safety. Our priority is getting these dogs home.”

The weird thing is, we already have a national ID card - it’s the Social Security Card, which (almost) every American paying into Social Security already has in their possession. Now, it’s true that it’s not particularly secure (being printed on simple card stock), nor is it yet universal (a lot of folks, like my Aussie siblings and their kids, who all qualify) never got their cards, but It’s there, we all qualify and if we beefed it up a bit, it could well serve.
Now, Social Security Numbers have been abused in the past (we used to use them in IT as database IDs, which was a stupid idea, but we’ve moved on, so everybody else should do the same).
Oh, and I have a “Real ID” Californian driver’s license, a US passport and now a Medicare card. It’s time to send this “Universal IDs are evil” meme to live at a farm in Upstate New York…
