Democrats are trying to reshape the narrative around the contested election in Iowa’s second district after weeks of Republicans’ using the dispute as a cudgel.

I kinda wish some dark money outfit would start hitting Trump voters with the express message that there is no use voting because Dems are just going to steal all the elections and Trump isn’t on the ballot.
The case almost writes itself…the reason why those 22 ballots were thrown out should be clearly stated, and if those ballots did run afoul of something in the election laws then they were rightly tossed. The fact that the Republicans are fighting this with a nonsense defense that ignores that basic question implies that they know those ballots should have been counted…if they can’t make that case on the facts they are going to try to flood the field with BS to distract everyone. Add in a bit of intimidation of voters by demanding they testify about their votes…that’s a bit over the top.
The Democrats are being very smart to connect this to Republican antipathy towards counting legal votes, and blocking voters from being able to vote. It’s an obvious pattern, and Republicans opened themselves up to it by not arguing on the facts. I still don’t think that Hart will ever get the seat, the politics play better for Democrats if her election was actually stolen, but we’ll see how it turns out.
About time the Dems showed up. We have to be able to prove we can walk and chew gum at the same time in the face of an opposition that is burning the country down with flamethrowers.

No, it just gives them the opportunity to play whataboutism with Trump’s efforts to invalidate his election results. They don’t really give a shit about the seat because they’re stuck in the minority either way.
[Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA)] squeaked out a win in 2020 by less than 2 percentage points. If the committee finds that Hart’s argument bears water and recommends that she be seated instead of Miller-Meeks, Axne would be in for an uncomfortable vote that Republicans would certainly use to their advantage.
Because a Democrat winning “by less than 2 percentage points” in an election where nobody contested the results is the same as a Republican winning by less than 0.0015 percentage points where enough votes to change the outcome were not counted.

Of course Oberweis, the Republican, lost by thousands and he’s trying to pull a Trump with throwing out thousands more votes - but why should his be allowed to proceed without comment?
Something I noticed about Gaetz is that the features of his face to don’t photograph, or come across in TV appearances as pleasing. Not getting into what comes out of his mouth, but I really believe he has the face for radio. Unless he has a squeaky toy voice, then maybe just a newsletter.
They never should have seated the Republican, even though it was officially provisional. Rs just want to have their cake and eat it, too. They’d be screaming about the D candidate stealing the election if she had won by 6 votes instead of losing by 6 votes. 6 VOTES!!
Why doesn’t the R candidate argue that votes for her should have been counted by weren’t. Or dispute the case on the merits. It’s because she knows she actually lost and doesn’t want to give up HER stolen seat.
Secure Voting Rights and protect Democracy. That should be a top priority from now on. Republicans cannot be trusted anymore.

Love how Elias and Hart are framing this as an attempt by GOPers to dismiss the ballots of the 22 Iowa voters. Also too is there any reason the 22 people should not be able to testify as to their choice for the seat as requested by Miller-Meeks? Or would that be violating their right to cast a ballot in secrecy?
The GOP just respects power. Do the due diligence necessary but consider we are nearly three months into the 117th Congress and wasting time. Show what you have and then hold a vote. Seat the winner, who will be Rita Hart because the Democrats have the majority and the votes. This is WAR against GOP Autocratic Rule.
