Dems Rip Trump For Blaming West Coast Wildfires On Lack Of ‘Forest Management’ | Talking Points Memo

Prominent Democrats on the West Coast on Sunday took aim at President Trump a day after he told rallygoers in Minden, Nevada that the wildfires raging in the region can be blamed on lack of “forest management.”

I have to admit that I’m puzzled as to how rakes can prevent lightning. If anything, they attract the stuff.

I know this seems a bit OT but its really not…How the hell are postal workers in the West even supposed to go about their daily rounds? My added concern of course is how badly this will affect the upcoming election.

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”

I think its about time someone updates the postal worker’s creed to include hellfire.

I live in California. Most of the forest that tRump claims are lacking management are federally managed.

The state of California manages just 3% of our forest land. The federal government manages most of it. So when a government official says that California’s forest land is mismanaged, think: “Congratulations, you just played yourself.”

And if anyone has ever seen a clearcut forest (which is what R’s secretly want) you will notice that it’s full of combustible material and will burn as hot and faster than a forest with trees in it. Logging leaves tons of branches, bushes and weeds with no canopy to keep moisture in - burns just like a woodpile spread out over hundreds of acres.

OR Republicans killed two bills this session that were meant to protect the state against the exact kinds of wildfires that are burning right now. They walked out of the legislature in a tantrum. Each and every Republican in OR is responsible for the fires and deaths that were caused by their inaction.

The Legislature ended the session without voting on either bill after nearly all of the state’s Republican lawmakers walked out of the Capitol and left Democrats without a quorum.

Come on, let’s give Trump credit where it’s due: he is very good -unparalleled, in fact- at watching TV.

So why shouldn’t we believe he’s an expert in pretty much everything? :anguished:

Earth to Trump:

Climate change management is forest management.

So, in fairness, we can now blame the huge Covid-45 fatalities on Mango Mussolini, since he never had a Trumpandemic Management plan?

The Repub timber cutting executive and former OR State legislator blamed everyone for the fires except decent clear cut loggers and climate change in that WaPo piece. It was a real piece of crap.

Clear cutting will not necessary stop a raging fire, especially with hot dry windy conditions (i.e., climate change). Look at clear cut areas. The forest floor is hardly “swept clean” as our great President suggests. It is full of debris and kindling large and small that a fire can easily jump across.

Sad but good to see OR gov respond with the obvious that I suspected:
Repubs didn’t do diddley on the forest management issue.

Trump: two words: FOREST MANAGEMENT

Democrats: climate change, years of drought, too much rain or too little, flat Earth, manage that water, Cascade snowpacks, oceans are warmer, oceans are more acidic, COVID, follow the science, timber thinning, extensive investments, harvest and thinning, blah blah blah blah blah blah

Hasn’t like 80% of those fires started on federal lands? Why didn’t Donald have Eric and Ivanka out there raking the forest the past four years? Sweden warned him, right? Just like the virus, Trump doesn’t address any problem unless he can profit from it in some way.
