Dems Haven’t Given Up On Impeachment Trial Witnesses | Talking Points Memo

Yes this is true. But it could also possibly be a chance for him to prove he has nothing to hide.

Either way, it’s not going to happen. The Republicans don’t want him to testify. They just want to make an issue out of his not being called. It’s all theater.

All they have to do is say, “It’s all up to the Speaker and her negotiations with putin #MoscowMitch.”

Well proving a negative isn’t really possible. His best bet by far is to stay out of it, in my opinion.

Personally, I hope they don’t send the articles over to the Senate until after the South Carolina primary and after super Tuesday so the Democratic Senators can continue campaigning until we have a clearer idea of who the nominee will be.

I don’t know, but I haven’t seen anything to indicate that the GOTPers care even the tiniest bit about being seen as obstructionist.

#MoscowMitch either had an unforced error, or showed his extreme level of contempt, by flat out stating that he’d be shutting down (ie. obstructing) the Impeachment once it entered his area of control.

Well, fuck them. It might help the public form an opinion on them. Every nail in their coffin helps.

My point being that there doesn’t need to be some sort of clever maneuver to make them be seen as obstructionist. They are already announcing it proudly.

Yes you’re probably right. But I do think if Biden jumped in and said if you want me to, sure I can do that, they wouldn’t know what to do and they’d drop the whole thing. The only mileage they get out of Biden lies in their ability to complain about Democrats not having called him and frame insinuations. They’ve got no interest in settling the record, I’d wager not even if they were to win the day, which they actually know they couldn’t do anyway.

I agree with 26degreesrising. It’s all theater at this point.

I kinda do too. And McConnell is under tremendous pressure to make this all ‘disappear’. Like with Zelenski, Biden wouldn’t have to actually show up, just say he’s willing to. But McConnell doesn’t have time for slow dancing. Let the media put out all the possibilities, let’s have fun! Remember last night? It wasn’t that long ago.

The ad I want to see is Putin leading Trumpf like a whupped poodle and a yuge tag line:
TRUMP - Didn’t stand up for America!"

A motto for 2017-2021.

And hopefully only that.

I wonder how quickly Ryand Paul will fold from his tough stance?

That may be true, actually. Hadn’t considered that.

Well there’s no chance it will pass in the Senate, but as theater this is good. It will also lead to more theater, a brisk debate on the justification of Trump’s conduct or lack thereof that will be breathlessly covered because what’s more exciting than war.

But this is what Republicans have been doing for the last couple of decades. And gradually, the howling sank into the public consciousness. Time to turn that back around. Thank you Madame Speaker. Thank you Chairman Schiff. Let’s keep going. Legislate and investigate the hell out of this miscreant. He’ll take the Republican party with him too.

Yay!!! My g-d I am glad she’s there as Speaker at this moment in time. I am so glad I could weep over it.

I know the idea of bringing additional articles of impeachment in the House was floated at one point. Couldn’t Pelosi make that happen and then make sure that Bolton gets a subpoena - but from the House rather than the Senate, where Mitch can bury the idea easily? After all, Bolton has said he would comply with a Senate subpoena; wouldn’t it therefore be hard for him to justify non-compliance with a subpoena coming from the House?
