Originally published at: Dems Demand Investigations After USPS Whistleblower Report: ‘Unconstitutional Power Grab’
Hello, and welcome back to The Franchise! Democrats are sounding the alarm and demanding investigations in the wake of a recent whistleblower complaint released by the office of Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) earlier this week. The report warns that the Postal Service’s new mail-in ballot policies that are being implemented to comply with President Trump’s…
Moral of the Story: Fascists do not quit in their quest for absolute power.
Will this matter get fast-tracked to the Supreme Court? And how will the Court react–sit on their judicious hands and solemnly mull until it’s too late to do anything? Refuse to get involved at all?
And even if they try to stop this, what kind of supervisory and enforcement powers do they have? Just telling Trump’s Post Office department to cease-and-desist is a pretty slender reed on which to try to depend.

McConnell to return to Capitol Hill this month, Rep. Comer says
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., told reporters that McConnell’s staff told him the senator, who has been away from Washington, D.C., for months due to unspecified health issues, will be back to work on Sept. 14 when the chamber returns from a five-week recess.
The Maryland House seat (MD-1) being defended by the GOP is currently held by House Freedom Caucus Chair & January 6th planning meeting attendee Andy Harris.
OT, but…
Let’s hope the years of constant lying ripped her insides to shreds and she was left incapable of keeping it up. But I doubt it is possible - she seems like a thoroughly amoral person.
Wonder if she’s gonna replace Karoline Leavitt… She seems sufficiently unctuous.
Too old
Vance defends friendship with Tucker Carlson despite Trump criticism
Vice President Vance defended his relationship with right-wing media personality Tucker Carlson during Thursday’s White House press briefing, saying he won’t allow political disagreements to ruin friendships.
Carlson this past week has said President Trump should be removed from office for “actively considering” preemptive nuclear strikes, while also saying he wouldn’t vote for former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the GOP candidate in Michigan’s Senate race, “at gunpoint.”
“Everybody knows that Tucker Carlson and I are friends, and I think it’s very obvious that Tucker has said some things that I disagree with,” Vance said when asked Thursday about people who are uneasy about his relationship with the former Fox News host.
“He said some things about the president of the United States that I think are just wrong,” he added.
The vice president also said he disagreed with Carlson’s apparent support of Abdul El-Sayed, Rogers’s Democratic opponent in the Wolverine State.
To me the whole USPS mail voting seems to be just a thinly veiled attempt for the federal government to get all of the states voter rolls, something that the federal government has absolutely no right to do, but that Trump has tried to do repeatedly and failed miserably all across the country. It was very poorly designed to do its stated purpose, but it does that perfectly.
A lie that was TOO big Sorry so many wars I confused them!!!
Lutnick apologizes for asserting that there ‘haven’t been American deaths’ from the Iran war
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick publicly apologized on Thursday after falsely asserting that no Americans had died during the Trump administration’s war with Iran.
Lutnick made the claim while defending the war in an interview on CNBC, saying that “the way the president is playing Iran, right, there haven’t been American deaths. It’s really just an economic chokeout which the administration is now executing more broadly, and I think it’ll be very effective.”
In a Thursday morning post on X, Lutnick said he “misspoke” and had confused the six-month war in Iran with the administration’s prior hours-long invasion of Venezuela.
“While speaking yesterday at the G20 innovation summit about AI, I answered a question about the military actions in Iran, I misspoke,” he wrote. “I was thinking about the Venezuelan military operation where no service members died
Vance is trying to become more Trumpian by having his pronouncements scrambled by the same random-number generator Trump uses to keep creating new distractions from the Epstein files.
And wrong hair color.
Needs an industrial sized container of “Blond in a Bottle.”
Every little bit helps
DC Swamp Remains Bitter - Texas Scorecard
Months after losing the Republican U.S. Senate runoff to Attorney General Ken Paxton, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is still trashing his former opponent—and apparently has no plans to help him raise the money Republicans say is needed to win in November.
Cornyn, who lost to Paxton by nearly 30 points in May, went to the liberal Texas Tribune late last week to continue his months-long critique of the candidate who will be at the top of the ballot.
“Paxton’s a poor campaigner,” Cornyn said, who lost to Paxton by nearly 30 points in May. “He’s lazy and doesn’t raise money. And he basically is not offering a very compelling case for his election. He’s making this harder than it needs to be. But so be it — we are where we are.”
Yet despite warning that Republicans could be headed toward a “disastrous” result, Cornyn isn’t directing his fundraising efforts toward preventing one.
Instead, he says he plans to help Republican Senate candidates in other states.
Thats a shame
That comes as some other Senate Republicans are claiming they don’t have money budgeted to defend the Texas seat.
“We in the Senate don’t have the money budgeted for Texas,” Louisiana U.S. Sen. John Kennedy said Sunday on Fox News.
Federal political action committees affiliated with the Senate GOP leadership spent close to $100 million trying to save Cornyn in the March primary and May runoff
Guess who has a new podcast debuting?!!
The post office will never see my ballot
Ugh!
dump guaranteed that there would be an expensive and fractious runoff for the Texas Senate Republican spot. And I remember Dems, myself included, being pretty gleeful about the fact that the Republican Party was wasting big $$ on a contest that could have been resolved with a handshake (if dump and Ken Paxton weren’t such miserable pricks). That $100 million wasted is squarely dump’s responsibility.
Stretching a chiclet to the moon has never failed in the past.
