Originally published at: Democrats Shouldn’t Let Russell Vought Fly Under the Radar - TPM – Talking Points Memo
This post is a part of TPM Cafe, TPM’s home for opinion and news analysis. President Donald Trump’s second administration is full of highly qualified candidates for “top villain.” But there’s a central White House figure who continues to evade his fair share of scrutiny: Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought. Vought, an alum…
Russell Vought exudes evil in his countenance and by his words and deeds.
Vought is Rasputin.
At last we’re talking about the Dr. Evil doing vivisection on the government and the Congress-passed budget.
No way he should have the power to stop paying bills.
If only we had some sort of functioning national legislature that could rein in the Executive Branch. Sadly, that horse left the barn some time ago. Oh, I missed the mention of his fervent Dominionist sympathies. Heckuva combination. Let’s hope the impeachment move gathers steam.
The reason why Vought flies/flew under the radar last year is because he’s been in gov’t before. Musk OTOH is a “personality”. A kook with lots of
.
And as much as Trump spews his illogical thoughts, Vought is in the background doing not spewing.
It’s about time that someone started to shine a light on this guy. He’s the real lever puller, and he’s the most dangerous person in the US.
While Vought’s name may not be mentioned as often as others, there’s been a steady spotlight on most of the destruction wrought by him, all roundly condemned and resisted. Is it that the MAGA cult of personality requires that we push back by personalizing the evil? Or is this simply Politics 101 in the modern era, that goal number 1 is to vilify the opposition as individuals, to flood the zone? No question that it works, just feels like a giant step backwards into a cesspool spiraling down to a 21st Century mob rule.
100% agree that Vought is the “brains” behind the domestic policy of the regime, and the most successful in doing its dirty work. Disagree that working to put him in the spotlight will pay off. He’s deliberately too dull and he doesn’t perform stupidly public stunts like the rest of the clown car occupants. With the already hated retinue of fascist clowns doing their daily work, there’s no need, and probably no profit, in focusing on Vought.
680,000
Russell Vought famously said that he wanted to inflict trauma on civil servants.
I await the day when trauma is inflicted on him.
You know, it’s not as if the head of OMB is all that obscure a position. After all, David Stockman was pretty prominently tied to Reaganomics, back in the day. The big difference is that Vought knows how to keep his mouth shut when the press is around, much better than Stockman did.
This is all very well, but I don’t see much hope of reining in Mr. Vought unless he can be charged with specific crimes due to his crimes of omission and commission, no matter how many mentions he gets in Congress or in the media.
“Reining in,” Hell. We need to tie his ugly mug to every unpopular bit (and there’s more of them, and more unpopular, every day) of the patient’s reign of plunder and destruction. The more voters learn about what’s actually going on, the less they like it.
Take out Vought and the whole thing unravels
I agree with the idea of Congressional Democrats needing to have a constant drumbeat on the evil of Vought’s initiatives. However, I would really like to know - where are the investigative journalists who could spend time trying to see what comes next on his agenda. Is he doing any work on meddling in mid-terms? Is he creating any new anti-democratic legislation; any new propaganda networks; any new initiatives for any of the cabinet secretaries? What he is planning for next is what frightens me most
Russell Vought is the Heinrich Himmler of Stephen Millers.
Where is the Democrat’s Project 2029?
The right hit the ground running with their plan already in place. And that’s the difference between the amount of damage sustained during Trump 1.0 and what has happened over the last year.
He just controls the money, so if something works against democracy and decency and the Constitutional notions these repulsive disgusting sick fucks hate so much, he’s all in. He already put out the playbook, now he just executes the plays.
Dems need to drop nice entirely, politeness, comity, all that “weak” sauce, leave it Susan Collins and Dick Durbin. In fact that’s all they should be doing, voting no on anything the gop proposes, and eviscerating all of these traitorous cancerous monsters, by name and deed, how much they’re stealing from us and how many people they’re killing. Just in Gaza, from sniffit’s link,
65,000 is the number of Palestinians are certain killed, including over, of which 75% are women and children.
In fact, we shall start the thinking of 680,000, because this is the number that some scholars and scientists claim being the real death toll in Gaza.
And it would be hard to be able to prove or disprove this number, especially if investigators and others remained banned from entering the occupied Palestinian territory, and particularly the Gaza Strip.
But if this number is confirmed, 380,000 of these are infants under five.
1,581, this is the number of health workers killed in Gaza. 252 is the number of the journalists, your colleagues, killed in Gaza.
And 346 is the number of UN staff killed in Gaza
How many American women have died, dead, because of their unconscionable war on abortions? How many have died at the hands of ICE, shot in the face or 12 times in the back? How many fishermen have been blown into pieces or left to drown for SUSPECTED drug smuggling?
These people and their selfish, stone age values shame us all, reduce us to shitty stone carvings of evil humans, and make a mockery of all those nobles values we think our wonderful country was founded on.
I’ve never seen a less Christian bunch of people in my life. The crowds at Synagogue when I got dragged in for the two times a year High Holidays were way, way, way more Christian than this crowd. Ken Paxton claims to be a Christly Warrior, yeah right, please, spin on it Ken.
