Democrats Are Getting Ready To Just Do It All Through Reconciliation

The Democrats are to Republicans in this situation (and so many more) like the Frog is to the Scorpion in the old fable: Of course the GOP will do what they can to kill any progress to cross the river. It’s who they are. It is in their nature.

The more people (ordinary people) hear about this Bill the more they will like it.

The bipartisan package needs to be looked at closely before it is “dropped” into the reconciliation bill.

Things that Dems want that were taken out to appease the GOP need to be put back. (Consistent with keeping Manchin on board.)

If that isn’t done, then the GOP gets to vote ‘NO’ but keep their winnings. And Sen. Schatz’s comment that “if you’re not willing to get to ‘yes’ then it’s very difficult to have any leverage” becomes even more ridiculous than it first appeared.

While the bipartisan infrastructure bill hovers in limbo between life and death,

First line in this story. What am I missing? How does Congress do one without the other? I thought both pieces of legislation were on course.

The GOP could actually have negotiated in Good Faith and earned a great deal of national respect, but they are hooked on Bad Faith.

Thanks for the response emiliano but I don’t get it. Manchin’s vote is still needed. If the 'pubs cripple the bipartisan legislation Dems still need Manchin’s vote on the reconciliation legislation. Why all the doom and gloom?

“‘Let’s do it as close to what the agreement was as we can,’” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) told TPM."

Seriously? So, the Democrats are prepared to give the GQP what was agreed to so far EVEN if they decide they’re not going to vote for the bipartisan bill anyway? WHY???

I have a better idea. Let’s make the reconciliation bill, if they’re not going to vote for the bipartisan bill anyway, a liberal wish list and ram it up the GQPs collective duplicitous ass. Why reward the GQP for bad faith negotiations? They most certainly wouldn’t do it for the Democrats.

To tell you the truth, my friend, I have taken to trying to read the minds of these players:

Biden, Pelosi, Harris, Sanders, Schumer…

They are trying to avoid the traps laid by the GOP, who look at Saving the Planet as a bad thing, because it would help Joe, the Democrats, the country and the Planet itself.

“Democrats Pass Infrastructure, Jobs, Climate Protection, and Family Economic Security Bill Without Any Republican Support”

I’m OK with that.

“…time is not our friend, and we gotta move forward…”

That’s the strategy my parents used when they beat the Nazis in WWII.

Manchin will oppose the reconciliation bill if the “bipartisan” bill doesn’t pass.

Not that there’s anything wrong that

It’s also the strategy they used when cleaning the scumbag fuhrer’s brains off the wall of his bunker.

The republicans want it both ways. They want to not vote for the bill so they can satisfy the Trumpists in their constituency and have the agreement contain their “ideas” so they can claim ownership, to try to convince the more moderate voters in their constituency that they were responsible for the passing of a good bill (which they didn’t vote for because ??? dum-de-dum the bad Democrats did some bad bad things).

I can’t figure these people and their idiot constituents out. Hard as I try.

They never had any intention of doing such a deal. Cut the cord, Chuck.

Go big, and announce in advance this time: “We’re giving you jobs and infrastructure, and the Republicans who whine now will try to take credit later, just like they did with your Covid-19 relief payments. That’s their idea of bipartisanship.”

Collect all the footage of GOPers screaming about socialism, handouts, and the national debt to juxtapose with them bragging about providing broadband and bridges, thenmake scads of “This is how it started/this is how it’s going” ads to run all over social media before the midterms.
