Democratic National Convention Night 3: Kamala Harris Gets The Spotlight | Talking Points Memo

The Democratic National Convention continues tonight with a number of high-profile women speakers. Joe Biden’s VP pick, California Sen. Kamala Harris, will cap off the evening with a keynote address after accepting the party’s nomination for vice president.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1327009

Joe & Jill Biden’s story last night seem so normal, reassuring and inspiring!
And J/J words seems so inspiring and unifying…

Hat’s off to Ady Barkan for his fighting spirit and activism!
Wishing him more good health to be with his family!

But tonight is “Go Kamala” time…Good luck!

You know what distance learning and tele-health require? Universal and free access to the internet. (This fits the topic if you think infrastructure, then Biden, then both at the same time.)

Once again, looking forward to this historic evening.

I wonder if she will mention the Senate Intelligence Report tonight.

Kah-MAY-lah? Or is it Kuh-muk-luk? Better ask Tucker Carlson to be sure. I know he insists he’s just an ‘entertainer’, but he pretends to be a ‘journalist’. You’d think he’d try to play the part and be accurate about how to pronounce someone’s name. Everyone else seems to have no problem with this.

Did you see how he scoffed when one of his guests said he should show respect by pronouncing her name correctly?

Personally, since Carlson doesn’t think it should be a big deal to mispronounce a name, we should all start replacing the “T” in his name with a “Ph.” Surely he wouldn’t mind, right?

Just mentioning how vulgar and mean-spirited and totally devoid of manners should be enough. Jesus, the guy doesn’t even know how tariffs work! Why not mention that??!!

It’s very simple: Comma - La.

I know! I have to pause for half a second to make sure I’m pronouncing it correctly, but I don’t mind that at all!

Works for me!

I used to pronounce it wrong myself. So I have to stop once in awhile and make sure I’ve got it.

So many profiles in courage were revealed last night.

So looking forward to tonight. I have enjoyed this more than any other convention.

This thing has got me hooked! Can’t wait for the sequel in four years…we know who will be stepping up into the lead role. And SHE is a star.

“Show respect”? I mean, c’mon - she strikes out on so many levels - a woman, a person of color (twice!), and she’s a DemonRat!! How on earth can a "Real Murkin"™ take her seriously?!?

(Answer: He should just watch what she does to DeJoy on Friday, then extrapolate to what she’s going to do to Pence in the debate, then get himself fitted for an athlete’s cup before she catches up with him…)

I predict there will be even more women in 2024. It’s sure trending that way.

I saw recently this way to think about it and it helps: Comma-lah

I think Carlson is headed for a fall. Eventually. The tide is turning.
