Originally published at: Dem Senators Prod Patel to Acknowledge FBI is Coordinating With White House on Personnel
It’s a minor point in this moment — as the leaders of the federal government brag that they’re preparing to investigate “the left” and journalists — but Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) today got FBI Director Kash Patel to confirm a key detail about the extent to which the traditional firewall between the Department of Justice…
The long-term life of these bills are a question mark. The filibuster applies to them in the upper chamber and it is unclear if enough Democrats would support them to get them to 60 votes.
Filibustered in the Senate, eh?
Turnabout is fair play.
Patel is wrapped just a little too tight; he’s just not suited for anything other than being a terminally on-line troll. Bongo Boy, too.
The real head of the FBI is Stephen Miller.
Dems may have ‘prodded’ but Grassley was there to leap in at every turn to whine about how the Democrats treated HIS whistleblower so he’s gonna let Patel scream and lie and attack whenever he wants. It was an amazing ‘show’.
As I understand it Mr Patel did not have one of his better days when questioned by Senator Schiff. Patel lost his temper and composure … poor fella.
The next time Adam Schiff has the opportunity to question Kash Patel and Patel talks over Schiff at maximum volume, Schiff should whip out a high power megaphone bullhorn and win at least one screaming match.
Patel Unloads Trumpian Vitriol on Schiff
I would not be put out at all if TPM staff wanted to replace Patel Unloads Trumpian Vitriol on Schiff with Patel Loses His Sh*t!
The original line gives Patel too much dignity. Anyone watching that display today, whether in his camp or not, could not come away and honestly feel he is trustworthy and competent. Definitely cannot handle pressure and keep it together. I suspect Hegseth is not far behind but hasn’t jumped in the right pickle barrel. In fact, keep this in mind with all the Trump minions. They may lie unconstrained, but if pushed to the wall and it is not working, they all have similar behavior.
Have you noticed Miller is never in a position to be questioned like this.
One of the bills aims to lower the age at which a minor can be tried as an adult for certain criminal offenses — including murder, first degree sexual assault and burglary, armed robbery and assault with intent to commit any of those crimes — from 16 to 14. The second limits eligibility for lenient sentencing for young offenders, changing the age cap from 24 to 18.
“Those aren’t bills that are serious efforts to address public safety in the Washington D.C. area,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said during a Tuesday press conference ahead of the votes.
In the final tally, the first bill had eight Democrats supporting it, while one Republican voted against it. The second one had 31 Democrats voting for it and, again, one Republican against it.
Jeffries is correct, but he needs to speak more forcefully (if he did, that’s not evident from TPM’s reporting). Trying 16-year-olds as adults is bad enough, but 14-year-olds? Also, recommendations for lenient sentencing are an important development on many fronts in recent years. (My lawyer daughter has devoted much of her professional life to helping clients because of a relatively recent NY state law, and to educating prosectors, defense attorneys, and judges about that law. It requires judges to take into account when sentencing or when, on appeal, considering a reduction in sentence of a person who committed a crime under conditions of domestic abuse.) And then: Reducing from 24 to 18 the eligibility for lenient sentencing: Why? All they were ever talkin’ was eligibility.
Who the fuck were the House Dems who voted for these bills? They need to be called out.
Patel kept his job because of the shit show he performed.
He only had one audience member. Period. However, he is an embarrassment to even someone as trashy as Donnie. And the one thing with Donnie, you have to make him look good. He may see Patel as giving the good fight, but it is a stretch. We will see if he is there in a few months or weeks.
Patel’s fidelity is not to the U.S. Constitution, but to a failed reality show “celebrity.” His preening was unseemly and disgusting.
He was a disgrace.
Why are Democrats voting for these bills?
