Dem Sen. Introduces Bill To Bar Trump From Firing Fauci For ‘Politically Motivated’ Reasons

Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) announced on Tuesday that he would formally introduce legislation to protect National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and other directors at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from getting improperly fired by President Donald Trump.

While I doubt something like this would stop IMPOTUS from kicking out Fauci should he so choose, I do like this action which puts the topic of a politicized firing front and center.

One would have liked it to include all key government scientists, and one would have liked it to have been passed decades ago, even if one would have liked to never have seen a need for it in the first place … but still, it’s good.

When will it become law?

Why doesn’t he introduce a bill requiring that Trump make virus testing available to all at will, and N95 masks for all. Do something productive instead of starting fights that really can’t go anywhere.

WoRd is, Trump is GoiNg to fire CuOmo.

The way I understand it he works of HHS and Trump can’t fire him. I would prefer they spend thier time on other things, like maybe barring FEMA from commandeering supplies destined for blue states. That’s something that needs to be more prominent in the national news.

How about a bill to fire Trump?

Both of them?

Shall we call this bill “The Fucking Off the Charts Frustration Act of 2020?” Seems futile, like nibbling at the edges.

Good lord! I’m not a fan of fights or wrestling, but I’d definitely pay to watch Cuomo take him down!:rofl::rofl:

We’re talking #MoscowMitch in the Senate here – so, on the 12th of Never.

Markey is trailing Rep. Kennedy in the polling for the MA primary.
That’s part of this.

and you really expect Trump to SIGN such a bill?!?!?

Er … no.

And do you think it will even make it past the Senate?

It will end up in Moscow Mitch’s “House Bill Graveyard” with the other 600 bills he won’t bring up for a vote, or discussion, or to committee.

I would be actually okay with firing Fauci. The only person in Impotus’ orbit with an above 50 percent approval rating, Fauci would then be free to consult with Biden, do joint pressers with the governors (the ones really leading the pandemic efforts) and remind the U.S. that Pol Potus is flying the plane directly into the ground. It would be the point of no return. Although we might be there already.

Not directly. But he’s well past retirement age at 79. I’m betting he’s SES (he might be research grade, but I doubt it) and on the old CSRS (supplanted by FERS in 1986 or 1987). He’s essentially working for nothing, since his retirement annuity would be 80% of his salary. He’s not doing this for the money. He loves his job. Perhaps too much?

But Trump could simply have him reassigned to a sinecure somewhere in the depths of some agency. Management can do that for the “efficiency” of the operation.
