Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Betty McCollum (D-MN), who sit on the House Appropriations Committee, asked Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy in a letter issued Thursday for the Pentagon to provide cots for National Guard members guarding the Capitol building.
Once again, Democrats show more care towards the military…I’m still waiting for the military to realize that the Republicans are not really on their side and use them as political props and cannon fodder for their policies. Maybe the difference between Biden and Trump will clear their heads of the propaganda that Republicans are the party of patriotism.
This might be a good time for GSA to say, “Oopsy, Trump being on the lease for the hotel in the Old Post Office building really is against the emoluments clause. So as of noon today the US gov’t is canceling their lease.” “Come on over NG, we’ve got beds and hot showers.”
Inflatable sleeping bag pads of the sort used by campers and backpackers are cheaper than cots, compressible (they roll up pretty small) packable, and they provide both insulation and cushion. They’d be much easier to carry and store than cots. With some attachments they can also convert into camp chairs, which is nice.
And also wouldn’t lend themselves to being used as a weapon. There are compressible sleep pads that don’t require actual “inflation” that backpackers carry.
It might not seem like it, but the cold, hard ground is actually quite a bit softer than a marble floor. I’ve used a camping mat for an indoor sleep-over and it was pretty uncomfortable
One party treats any criticism of the military and law enforcement as a sacrilege. The other party cares for the well being of the members of the military and law enforcement. The pattern continues.
I guess the top brass figured, they’re in the military so they are accustomed to roughing-it…But…the photos are so unseemly. But…something as minimal as a Sleeping Bag? Something-anything. Who are these Great Thinkers at-the-top?
Actually, most were laying back on their packs. The changes of clothes and other things in the pack make it kind of like a pillow and leaning back on it like that is more comfortable than it looks.
O/T most likely, but I had a thought that I wanted to post someplace before I forgot it…
It seems to me that w/ cop-killer tRump’s incitement(s) still top of mind, there might be an opening for BLM to drive a nice fat wedge between the “Blue Lives Matter (unless they’re defending against MAGAts)” crowd and those peace officers who take their oaths seriously, for example, by honoring slain officer Brian Sicknick during his delivery to a funeral home.
Perhaps another opportunity will present itself at his memorial service (or whatever celebration of his life may come) and in joining the call for a robust investigation into his murder by insurrectionist, domestic terrorists.
LOL I wish she was around when I was in the service. People in the army learn to sleep anywhere, in any weather or situation. The army uses sleep deprivation to increase stress in training. When I served it was not unusual during combat maneuvers to get 4-5 hours of sleep per night for up to 3 weeks, and every night you had to pull a one hour watch shift, sometimes right in the middle of the night. Its a very demanding.
I don’t know. I know it’s super anecdotal but so far from my experiences it’s been the other way around generally with enlistees being more conservative and the officers of not necessarily liberal at least not being Trump supporters , but again that’s my anecdotal experiences. I’m prior service Coast Guard and most of my old buddies are MAGAS.
The Army and Marines got a better cross section of American recruits when there was a draft, and civilians were more aware of the ongoing wars. News reports of military actions got a lot of face time then. Now you don’t hear squat unless you get to talk with a returning soldier. Nixon did the MICC a real solid when he ended the draft.
