Meh…Hawley the Yale Populist is getting everything he ever wanted out of this…
I thought that was SOP for Republicans?
I do not consider the arguments clever, let alone the rhetorical flourishes limber, strong, graceful nor proficient.
Fine tuning his campaign 2024 speeches.
I think some dust will settle after the Jan 5 runoffs. Behavior of the republicans, particularly in the Senate, is being influenced by their need for at least one win on that day.
Sasse wants to run for president in 2024; I suspect he would be silent otherwise.
Sasse could’ve made a decent Dem for where he’s from, but some stains are indelible.
The end game may be to stay in power, but at what cost? A party that has lost it’s marbles can’t stay in power for long.
Not just the stain, but the stink as well.
But isn’t it strange?, or I haven’t quite gamed out his plan here, that by defending Trump he’s sort of quashing his own bid for 2024? I mean he’s up for re-election in 2024, and for such a pious man he’s going to gamble his shot now, instead of coming up with something in 2022?
Trouble in Paradise?
Josh Hawley said “But those voters “deserve to be heard,”
Back in the 90’s conservatives like Hawley went into high dungeon over Clinton nominee Lani Guinier when she said that the minority ie 49% who is on the losing side of an election deserves representation and should have their voices respected not negated. She advocated for measures like ranked choice voting which has been successful and is being implemented in New York this year as well as some kind of weighed representation. How do Hawley, Sasse and his ilk feel about such measures to improve our democracy or with will they go back to the type of invective used against her like “quota queen”.
I don’t think they actually hate America. They are just indifferent to its ideals and its citizens. Which is bad enough.
Perhaps. Beyond that, I think I’ll take Sasse at his word for now. I’m willing to give him a shot at redemption for his past mistakes. Collins too. I know what he and his “moderate” allies did before. What will they do now? I’m prepared to convey upon them the best name I think a politician could earn — a democrat — small d.
Don’t have any respect for Sasse…but he does have a way with words, I must admit:
“institutional arsonist members of Congress who will object to the Electoral College vote”
“Adults don’t point a loaded gun at the heart of legitimate self-government”
You know if you think about it, Republicans have not only lied to us for decades but have been lying to themselves too. Pseudologia fantastica is a nice description of the GOP in my lifetime, and probably earlier.
Let’s hope their foot in their mouth where it usually is.
Gyosh Hawley is the Gym Jordan of the Senate.
I really hope our side will just let the Trump dead-enders have their Covid-spreading party in DC on Jan 6 and not take the bait for some kind of violent confrontation. It’s exactly what Trump is waiting for - an excuse to declare some kind of national emergency or send in the troops.
Just showed on MSMBC dump and his bride are on airforce 1 on the way back to the capital
No reason why
Can’t believe he will miss his super spreader New Year Eves party…
Don’t you think these GOPers (or “institutional arsonists,” in Sasse’s words) will get primaried by QAnon and other fringe types even if they go along with this plan? They’re kidding themselves if they think it will protect them
